I was bored at work and opened up FB marketplace which I rarely bother looking at since most local ads are like $500 Classics because "they go for $1000 on ebay" but noticed a stack of Macs for $40 and the ad was just posted. I was probably the first person to message and I said I'll pick them...
A couple weeks ago I missed out on giant bins of various 90s Macs including Color Classics for $2 each. But, last week I found someone else who was trying to unload their old Macs. Made the trip today and ended up with this:
I really only needed the PowerMac 7100 for some Copland testing but...
I've always liked the look of the Quadra 700 and wanted one for years. One came up on ebay last week within Canada and was already hit with a stack of offers and over 10 watchers, but the buy it now price was still far less than any other I've seen so I went nuts and bought it.
Had the...
This one has stumped me. It has the symptoms of a broken CPU but I've got two boards and they both don't LOOK broken. I've also got two power supplies, two ROM SIMMS, multiple RAM sticks. None of these parts mixed together produces a working 6100... When power is applied the power light comes...
I picked up a Duo 210 a little while back with a problem where random keystrokes will not register on the computer. I haven't pulled the thing apart yet but wondering if anyone has ideas for something specific I should be looking for.
Couple weeks ago I found a PowerBook 520c at the local Value Village. Thing had been kicking around on random shelves for probably a month, and the power supply had also gone missing. Paid $12.99 for it to save it from eventually being thrown out. Had to order a power adapter online to make it...
Got a Classic I wanted to try the ROM boot trick with so it has no internal hard drive installed. I noticed both before and after recapping the board it never reaches the blinking question mark point of the boot process. Basically only goes as far as having the mouse show up then just sits there...
I picked this lot up few weeks ago for $100.
Had to drive a few hours to grab everything but I wanted to make sure it didn't end up thrown out or something. Lots of goodies were included such as a box of SCSI drives, stacks of floppy disks, Apple IIe cards for LCs, spare components (LC575...
Has no internal CD-ROM, instead it came with an external one. 36mb RAM, noisy 250mb HD, Supra 33.6 modem, couple system floppy disks along with ClarisWorks and RAM Doubler. Not sure what I'll use it for yet.
Went down to vancouver and picked up a Cisco 2611 and Sonicwall Pro firewall for 40 bucks. Neat stuff to play around with, not much practical use in my house
So it seems my Color Classic has developed a weird issue while sitting on my table unused... I went to back up some of the stuff on it using a floppy but the system rebooted the second I put the disk in the drive. It ejected right at the happy mac screen so I put it back in and it immediately...
So I was toying around with the Hotline 1.2.3 client on my quadra tower when I noticed that the domain "boffomac.com" wasn't owned by anyone... The bookmark to their hotline server came with the hotline software right out of the box, so I figured I'd buy the domain for 9 bucks and forward it to...
So i'm going through a 13 year old set of backup floppies where I used stuffit to split the backup into 1.4mb parts.. Trouble is, some of the disks are bad... I'm missing random parts throughout the collection starting with #3. Anyone know how I can try extracting the contents of these archives...
So I had to rip every box out of my house storage area to find one freakin power cable for my digital cable box and I ended up finding a few things I forgot I owned:
-Commodore 64C in original box with manual and disks, looks brand new
-boxed kids software disks for Atari ST
-Treo 270 PDA...
I'm betting this is a no go since I haven't been able to find anything useful on google... Anything I can do to get a piece of software which is apparently Intel only (didn't error out during install, only when I try to run) to run on a G4?
So I fired up my old color classic and put a network card in it. The machine detects it and I was able to set the TCP/IP settings to ethernet and drop my IP details in. Problem is, I can't switch the appletalk connection over to ethernet instead of the serial port. When I select ethernet, it...
I happened to browse the local classifieds but rarely do since nothing cheap is ever there, and came across someone selling G4/450 towers for $20 a pop. No ram or HD, but I've got lots of stuff that should work. Going tonight to pick one up. This will replace my G3/400 tower.
Technically haven't actually grabbed it yet, I'm leaving work early in a bit here and driving about an hour to pick it up. Not the color model, 28 megs ram, unknown HD. Boots into 7.6.1. Offered $45 and they accepted. I mainly wanted it for the power supply as my friend gave me an old 190/5300...
