How to install Python packages on eMac with 10.5.8?

I want to install Python on my eMac and some packages like NumPy, Matplotlib, etc. Installing the Python package was easy. I downloaded v3.5.4 from python.org. With some help from Google, I was able to get pip installed. I have pip and pip3 running, it seems. However, I cannot install any...

How to confirm my CPU type and count in my G4?

About a year ago, during days of better health and all that, I purchased a Power Mac G4 from the shopgoodwill site. The machine was advertised as having a 733 MHz processor and 128 MB of RAM. This is what is printed on the specifications sticker on the back. Now, after a long long long break, I...

Centris 650 internal SCSI vs external SCSI speed - same?

I am currently using a ZuluSCSI Mini v1.0 on my Centris 650. It connects to the 25 pin port on the back of the machine. Would I see faster R/W speeds if I used an internal ZuluSCSI device connected to the 50 pin ribbon cable? Or do these two ports perform identically? Thanks! :)

Now entering the PPC ecosystem with a Power Macintosh G3!

I'm back at it again! :) I did a quick eBay search for "mac pci sata" and found two promising results. This is a four port SATA card. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254669358361 This is a two port SATA card. https://www.ebay.com/itm/266155412364 The four port model is cheaper. Maybe I could get...

Now entering the PPC ecosystem with a Power Macintosh G3!

Sorry for my delayed response here ... The machine has OS 9.2.1 installed on it. I didn't dig too deep into that system because the only thing it has is porn. I didn't want to mention it because it sounds kind of stupid. The only application is Netscape Navigator with literally 100s of links to...

Now entering the PPC ecosystem with a Power Macintosh G3!

After getting a taste of a 68k system through my Cenrtis 650, I decided to pick up a beige G3 desktop. Here is the eBay listing I purchased the machine from. https://www.ebay.com/itm/295533405617 I purchased this machine because the seller offered to pay for return shipping. The machine...

    Mathcad 6 crashes upon loading?

Sorry for being out of action here. Had a bit of a COVID to fight off! 😷 🤒 Here's my system's profile. Could the crash be coming from me running OS 8.1? I was thinking of trying to install OS 7.6.1, the last of the version 7 series.

    Mathcad 6 crashes upon loading?

Did that just now and a "Type 2" error pops up now.

    Mathcad 6 crashes upon loading?

I installed Mathcad 6 from the Macintosh Garden on my Centris 650 and it crashes when opening. It looks like the program wants to get past the splash screen but can't. The upper righthand corner of the splash screen disappears and the computer hangs here. I tested this installation on my...

How to increase available memory for Excel 5.0a?

The 65,535kB maximum was seen when I open up the "About Microsoft Excel 5.0a". It didn't register the 131072kB I entered. MatLab, Mathematica, and MathCAD are coming. My backlog here to explore is huge! 😁 Plus, I am still learning the basic ins and outs of the platform. I mean, I didn't even...

How to increase available memory for Excel 5.0a?

Thank you @ymk ! :) I did not know I could do this! Edit : It looks like the maximum value this can be set to is 65,535kB, or 65MB.

How to increase available memory for Excel 5.0a?

One of my goals in increasing the RAM in my Centris 650 is to load very large spreadsheets of financial data and have the computer churn through all of my calculations, no matter how painful it may seem. It looks like I am unable to load anything beyond 1.6MB. I stumbled upon this when I...

ZuluSCSI Mini R/W speed - is this normal?

I found a neat little benchmark program called TimeDrive. https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/timedrive Here is what the program said about my ZuluSCSI Mini. (apologies again for my super blue photos - CRT screens are hard to photograph) Is that a normal speed? Am I ahead of the curve? Am I...

Did the 68k machine have a presence in the demoscene?

@ymk - My Jr. High School had Macs, maybe 7 to 10, in several classrooms. They were mostly used for word processing. Several of the kids there ended up with a Mac in the home because of this. My High School had a couple full-blown Mac labs, much for the same purpose: word processing and some...

Maximizing memory on my Centris 650 - will this work?

My board looks just like your picture. There is nothing there. What was the ROM slot for, if it were to be installed?

Which "useless" extensions are not worth the RAM and time to load nowadays?

When I installed OS 8.1 on my Centris 650, I selected all available options for everything. I figured that I could always reinstall a fresh OS if this was a bad idea. One consequence of installing everything was the longer boot time. I have disabled some extensions like those for printers and...
