    jsarchibald's Conquests

Hi all, I probably should have done this thread years ago, there are so many great things I've scored over time. I started with a Mac 512K upgraded to a Plus for $25, a great little system, back in 2010.  Shortly thereafter came 5 SE's from a hoarder (his property looked like something from...

"Your Macintosh was the xxth manufactured during the..." or was it?

When I started comparing serial numbers for known Drexel 128K Macs, I noticed something interesting - they were all week 6 of 1984, and I found one on the M0001 Registry, the one that sold on eBay last year, and a fellow members Drexel. They were the 4330th, 2585th, and 3510th made that week...

Scored a Silkscreened Drexel 128K Mac!

As you may have seen on another thread or two (eBay finds and an older Drexel Mac thread), I scored a Drexel Mac for the princely sum of USD$199.95.  However, add in GSP to get it to Australia of USD$138.28, and then a handy credit from eBay of USD$14.35 (or AUD$20), and I’m left with a bill of...

Replacement Portable (M5120) Screen, where to find?

I'm after a replacement screen (actually two would be ideal) for a Portable, where do I find one these days?

Does the Portable require AC power for a certain period of time to boot?

I'm having my two Portables refurbished, and it's going on 12 months now (don't ask). I've been told they are being finicky with powering on properly, in that they need to be plugged in for up to 12 hours to "charge the circuits to make them work".  He goes on to add, "These issues are related...

Kid Pix - Not Enough Memory?

I have two copies of Kid Pix on floppy, and when I try to open the program, I get a 'Not Enough Memory' error.  This is despite the program being suited to LC's, and machines I've attempted it on range from a PowerBook 165c through to a G3 Wallstreet.  Every machine comes up with the same error...

TAM Upgrades that can be reversed back to stock

I've been unashamedly a huge fan of the TAM, and whilst many of the negative points people raise are in relation to it's original price, or how the internals are pieced together, it's easily my most favourite Mac of all time. System 7 is my fave OS, and this machine, especially with a G3 card...

Recapping - Permanent fix to future-proof

I've been away from the hobby for a couple of years (having a baby, building a house, typical adult stuff), and have lost touch with what is happening with recapping and options. I am wondering what options are available for recapping that will be permanent (ie, never need to replace them...

    The TAM Appreciation Thread

As most of you would already know, the TAM has a special spot in my collection.  It is the one computer that I would have to keep above all others.  So I thought I would start a TAM Appreciation Thread, for those of us with a TAM (or several, or even none.  Maybe I should have called this the...

Apple IIe Card - What would you put it in?

I have an Apple IIe Card on the way, complete in box with install disks and that elusive Y Cable.  I'm trying to figure out which Mac to use it on, and I think I've figured it out but need a sounding board. I have an LC 575, a Mac TV (pretty sure no PDS slot - damn!), a Color Classic, and a...

Replacement for felt pad in 400K Drives

I am missing the felt pad and plastic insert that assists the 400K drives in reading a disk. Two had popped out on my machines, but I was able to find one and reattach. The other probably never had this since I received it. Any ideas on what I can use to replace this pad?

    Retrobrite in Australia

I have some machines that I need to de-yellow, but we have different products than in the US. I'm assuming I can use Napisan Oxi-Action instead, but instead of guessing, I'd rather get some local advice (ie. products we have, measurements in metric, etc). I have a heap of machines I want to...

400K Floppy Drives: Figured out how to de-gunk, but alas

I have some 128k macs, but I can't get the floppy drives working at all. Until Saturday, they were all gunked with 30 year old grease, and using some helpful tips here, I was able to figure out how to clean them and get them operating as they should (at least the insert/eject). Now, they are...

    Original Macintosh Box and Packaging

Someone had a Mac Plus on eBay that ended last night, but it turns out that it came in an original mac box, inclusive of all packaging materials and inserts. I have the stuff that is missing (manuals, system disks), so with a clean up, it should look good with my original mac in it. The box...

    Macintosh 128k, but...

Why do they always seem to have a 512k board in them?!?! Can't complain, I got it for $80. Gave it a good clean and it looks great. Floppy drive gummed up, boots with no sound, but asks for a disk. That's 4 I own now, and each of them has a crap disk drive, and all but one have a 512k board.

Apple Macintosh System Software Update Version 5.0

Hi all, I recently won this boxed system software. The box has some minor creasing, but apart from that, it is like new. For a 25 year old pack, it's in fantastic condition. It is fully complete, it even has the packing list and other documentation. Seems that this was released in October...

Original Macintosh with Bag, 400K drive, KB/Mouse, manuals

Hi all, I'm a little excited as I've managed to score a fairly complete Original Macintosh (a 128K, but badged 'Macintosh'). I don't have the machine yet, I'm arranging the courier as we speak. I'll upload some pictures when I get the chance, although I am about to relocate for work and my...

    50+ G3 iMacs - Melbourne, Australia

Hey all, You may have seen these, but so far, there are two auctions for bulk lots of G3 iMacs in several colours (no Dalmations or Flower Powers that I can see). There are a few Melbournites on here, so maybe you can pool your resources and rescue a few old macs before someone buys them for...

G4 iMac 17" 1.25GHz - Non working, but is now!

I've been looking for a G4 iMac for a long long time now, but they are usually pick up only and/or go for stupid prices. I've missed out on a few good ones over the past two years by not watching the end of an auction. Anyhoo, I saw a non working iMac with the 17" screen and the 1.25GHz...

Compact Carry Bags - How to make them smell nice?

I have 5 old compact carry bags that I got from my mega conquest last year. They had possum poo and loads of dust on them, and I spent a few hours yersterday hosing them off, scrubbing them with hot soapy water and a sponge, plus a can of Preen, and they have come up quite well (they're still...
