Wallstreet Battery Rebuild

Currently researching what it will take to rebuild both the main battery and the PRAM battery in my Wallstreet PDQ/300. I've got a good feel for the PRAM battery rebuild, since the removal is documented on iFixIt and the VL batteries are still around. I'm a little more worried by the main battery, though, since the first challenge is getting the case open without completely destroying it.

Anyone have any tips on this process? Thanks!

Battery of your PDQ contains 12x 17670 tabbed batteries

17670 can be found if you look hard enough, but they are super expensive ( 80 $/EUR for 12 ) for 3900mAh
It's more than the price of an old NOS OEM battery that may have some juice left and is way less hassle.

Someone says in the reddit thread this can be done with 18650 instead, which are way cheaper batteries, are still manufactured (I think the 17670 are all "NOS" lying on a shelf since 10 years) , and they are also 2x more powerful (9900mAh is commonplace), so this could make sense...
But I seriously doubt a 18650 would fit where a 17670 used to go, unless they have spare length in the box...

Thanks for the update. My battery case does not seem interested in being opened, and rather than destroy the battery permanently, I've decided to just run on AC whenever the machine comes out to play.

I'm investigating this and it seems quite complicated with unpredictable results.
The problem also is that I have a single battery, so if I ruin the case, I'm gonne end up with a hole on the side of my precious PDQ.

Other than that, it's a good 60-80EUR of batteries to put in there, to solder, you seem to need a reset of he eeprom on the battery itself, and hope for the best.

Apple made a software utility to reset a wallstreet battery due to some issue with it. Maybe that does an eeprom reset?
