ProFile Drive Emulator for Lisa?

Got it working so far, that I hooked up MacWise (and Putty on Win) can pull the drive info from my ProFile, but when I try to backup it's just sending errors when trying to transfer data via XModem protocol. I am in contact with Alex Anderson-Mcleod via Mail and let's see if we can find a solution.

Idea popped up that it might be handy to have a way of switching ROMs (and other stuff) from square pixel mod to normal.... I am not the hardware guy and have not much idea about coding either (first gen of mouse pushers ;)), but perhaps here is someone; just posting the idea.

Reply latency warning; I won't have much time next week and will be off for holidays till mid august....

best

Short update: Alex was so kind to provide me with some known working images and everything for Mac (Mac Works and Mac XL) is booting properly and I can run Macintosh software, which does not make much sense, as a Mac 128k and SE30 are right beside the Lisa in our museum. Anyone got dumps of the original Lisa Eproms that are needed in order to get rid of the square pixel mod? Lisa should be Lisa again. ;)

Here should be the roms, dunno if they work.

Would you be willing to sell the roms and other parts for the Lisa XL mod? I’m looking to upgrade my machine a bit more.

The boot ROMs (version H in this case) are not enough: you also need to change your video state ROM, which controls the screen timing. See this post for a bit more detail. This is a PROM and not an EPROM, and it also contains a Lisa's unique serial number, or at least it does for the un-modded Lisa.

You may be able to keep the transformer fitted; I seem to remember that it will still work with rectangular pixels, but someone else may know better.

Thank you! As this is for the museum selling won't be an option. Sorry to say... I am not even sure, if can manage to build it back.

Not sure, but this seems to be the official thing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2360588742...UdJl9bm0FHeerU++Xwdjtu0g==|tkp:Bk9SR4jJi56PZg

Does anyone here sell or have files for emulating a ProFile drive for an Apple Lisa? I have a dead Profile 5MB drive i'd like to convert over (doesn't go through full seek) but the two options I know of aren't the most desirable. IDEFile (or whatever) is pretty expensive and afaik isn't the best at emulation, while the ArcaneByte emulators are out of production due to the boards they use going out of production.
Hi, do you still have your faulty Seagate drive from that Profile? I may know a fix or at least the reason for the incomplete checkup: it could be due a faulty controllerboard that is attached to the drive. I had several drives with same/cery similar behavior.

Cheers from Germany,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

yes. I am still struggling with that one. Not able to make any backup, du to bad sectors. Where are you from?
best,
Falk

Hi Falk,
I'm based in Lower Saxony in a small city..or village near Göttingen ;)

At least you can manage to get "faulty sectors" - on the other hand, sometimes these bad sectors are also fixable by complete low level formatting the drive...

We can also continue on PN?

Cheers,
Marcus
