Power macintosh G3 flickering screen and flashing disk icon.

I was just wondering why this is happening. I think the flashing disk is a HDD problem as there are wired HDD sounds coming from it and I think the flashing screen is a GPU problem. Anyone know how I can repair this and get the original OS back on it.

Thanks.

Is this an iMac, Mac Mini, Laptop, All-In-One?

If it has a Firewire connector, you can hold down Option-T to get it into FireWire Share mode and recover what you need from it on a connected machine. But depending on how bad this video issue is, you may have to do this several times and transfer files a few at a time.

It says in the title. Power macintosh G3

If it says "Power Macintosh G3" on the computer and has a built in monitor, it's known as a "Power Macintosh G3 All in One." If the flashing disk has a question mark, the computer cannot find an operating system to boot. This can be as simple as the disk being blank, but could certainly also be a disk failure as you suspect. The flickering screen is most likely a monitor or power supply issue. Does the picture on the screen distort or change color or does it just flash off and on? There's a chance the video cable could be loose inside. To confirm the model is correct, visit everymac.com and look for your computer. Once you find it, you'll find all the specs including which versions of the OS work with your machine.

there are many types of G3 macintoshes , so if you cant answer we cant help.

It is not a all in one. Maybe it would be easier if i show you a picture of it.

P.S. I got given the power macintosh G3 and the other computers for free. When i picked them up they were in rough shape.

G3 beige tower, screen flicker may be the screen its hooked up to.  Flashing hard drive icon means its missing its operating system )or the hard drive is pulled, same outcome).

You will need to open it up, make sure it has a hard drive and then get an OS cd and reload an OS on there.

Not the screen or cable. Tried it on a different power macintosh and it didn't do that.

also it looks like someone spilled coffee down the side of the power macintosh g3
