Any ideas of what is going on with this Macintosh SE FDHD?

So i have a Macintosh that i bought for a good price a while back (probably a year ago) and when i first turned it on it had issues, but i didn't do much with it, and stuck it in my closet. I have finally gotten back around to working on it, but i'm not 100% sure what is going on.
 
The miniscribe hard drive is making clicking and thumps, and the floppy drive is having all kinds of problems (ejecting mechanism, read/ write head), and between both of them, all i can get it to do is turn on. Everything else looks fine inside, the analog board is good, and the logic board is good. Someone before me, even had the sense to take the battery out of the board for me. I really don't want to give up on it, and buying a replacement hard drive and floppy drive isn't out of the question, i just want to know if i have too.
 
First question, is the hard drive completely gone, or is there any hope for it?
Second question, any ideas what might be causing the floppy drive to fail? I know that a pin is sticking that holds the floppy while ejecting, but why isn't it reading? The lubrication still looks okay, so?

yup the HDD is bad. Sometimes if you flip it around, itll get going temporarily. 

I just picked up an SE and its doing the same thing. Had to rotate the drive around so i can get the data off of it. 

It basically cannot find sector 0, so it keeps hunting and generates constant seek errors. 

I believe the platter begins to lose its magnetism over the years. Since it is a stepper drive, a good low-level format can cure it as long as the heads are not damaged.

The floppy drive is pretty easy to service, remove the two small springs by the side of the drive, the black plastic guide for the heads and remove the top metal mechanism.

Clean the old grease and put back new one.

Clean the heads and the micro switches and will probably work again.

 I don't guess anyone knows of a detailed guide on how to do this? I searched online, but only to come up with the 400k floppy drive version. Also, what kind of grease would best be suited for this?
