First off my apologies, I know my iBook thread is right below this one. I figured I've been having some good luck thrifting recently so I should make a dedicated thread so I'm not spamming new threads going forward.

But today I picked up this awesome 15 inch PowerBook G4 with a 1.25 GHz G4 at a local thrift store. It ended up cleaning up really nicely (its now the nicest G4 AlBook I own), and to my surprise the battery still holds a charge (seems to get like an hour to 1.5 hours of battery life) so I'm happy with it. I've stuck 2 gigs of RAM in it and its quite a nice little machine. At $35 it might not be as much of a steal as some of my other finds, but I think its a decent deal that will make a nice addition to my collection.

My latest thrift find: a PowerBook 5300 for $30! This is the base model with the greyscale screen, and 16mb RAM. It is in phenomenal condition--I don't think it was ever really used! The HDD had almost nothing on it, just a Scrabble game and a Solitaire game. But the most incredible thing is the original battery holds a charge. I ran it for 2 and a half hours on battery last night! And it died when it said it was at 50%, so its possible there's a little retention going on there, so I'm going to run Battery Amnesia and see what happens there.

I know the 5300 has somewhat of a reputation as P.O.S., but I like this one and I'm going to have some fun with it. They actually had a 5300CS there for $50 (this one was priced at $50 but the color on its price tag was on sale), but the 5300CS wasn't in great condition with a trackpad button that didn't really click and a broken port cover door latch. It also didn't have a battery and the hard drive was on its last legs (I booted them both up there, they both also had a power cable). I'm going to go back in a few days and if its still there and its color is on sale I'll probably pick it up and try and fix it up. But otherwise, this is a cool little machine, and with a CF adapter the lack of a CD drive isn't really an issue.

Honestly this find is up there with the ones I'm most excited about! I gambled on a battery I found on shopgoodwill for a 12 inch G4 PowerBook, since mine didn't have a battery at all. The battery was only $12 and came with the box, so I figured in the worst case, at least I wouldn't have a big hole in the bottom of my laptop.

But to my pleasant surprise, the battery is literally brand new! It has 0 cycles recorded on it, and seems to get a few hours of battery life (I haven't been able to run it through a full charge yet). Its given this 12-inch G4 a new lease on life! Next semester once I have in person classes again this laptop is absolutely coming with me to some of my classes.

Oh, very nice!  These are lovely laptops when you can actually use them as laptops.  I miss my 12" G4; one of the best form factors of laptop I ever had.

Widescreen displays have a lot of benefits, but on the 12 inch the 4:3 display really makes it feel compact, and for basic word processing I really like it. I also like that they didn't sacrifice the keyboard size for it.

I've been having some good times thrifting recently, and I just picked up this 700 MHz 12" iBook G3 for $20. I haven't noticed the dreaded GPU issues, and the battery seems to hold a charge! Sadly the HDD is dead (its booted off target disk mode on my trusty Pismo), so I'm looking forward to the really easy and straightforward repair :). Once I get a new HDD I'll probably mostly run this thing as a 9.2.2 machine since I've got better OSX machines, though I might install 10.2 just to mess around with it since 10.3 is the earliest version of OS X I've really used. I do like the translucent look of this machine better than the later opaque ones.
