  1. Hello, History: Trying to repair a IIcx. I got it from a basement for a cheap price. Unfortunately it didn't even boot at first. The PSU is dead. Tried with a known good PSU, and it wasn't better. After a full recap, the board was powering on. There is no chime, but it will boot sometimes with a half broken screen. Sometimes it will even display the floppy disk icon. Tests: Tried swapping the CPU (socketed IIcx…): no change Tried whitout RAM: no change Tried IIx ROM: no change Tried another Toby card: no change (w
  2. In an effort to keep this all together, and start with a much more organized topic, here it is: Compact Desktop Power Supply Capacitor Lists (by make and model) The models tagged, the IIci, IIcx, IIvi, IIvx, Performa 600, Quadra/Centris 650 and Quadra 700 all use the same form-factor PSU, only with varying max output as well as encompassing a number of manufacturers and models. @Franklinstein gave me the idea to create a topic dedicated to re-capping those power supplies and a central list/collection for each make/model that's been used. This is not meant to downplay ATX modi
  3. Hey, new to the forum here. I have accumulated quite the vintage Mac collection, and as everyone has experienced, the leaky capacitor issue is a real pain. Luckily I learned how to remove and solder on new caps. I've been using tantalum caps, and I've got at least 2-3 of the IIci/IIcx motherboards where I recapped them, and they turn on just fine, but once they've warmed up, the just shut off and then power back up. However, they don't power up completely, they immediately turn off again, and on and so on. The cycle starts with the first shutdown/power up I hear the
  4. Hi All, Has anyone tried to 3D print feet for your IIci? When I got mine it had none and they appear to be hard to find... This seller sold his/her last set https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rubber-Foot-Macintosh-IIci-IIcx-Quadra-700-Vintage-Apple-Case-Bumper-Feet-/143139575183?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137
  5. I just recapped my Macintosh IICX because it was having the common issue where the computer won't turn on and the power supply just clicks over and over again. Also, the sound wasn't working. After recapping the computer, the machine turns on just fine, but there is no chime and nothing is displayed on the screen. Do you think that I messed something up while recapping it or is there some other explanation to this problem? By the way, it worked fine before I did the recap on the rare occasion that it would actually power on without clicking repeatedly.
  6. Has anyone tried to fit a Turbo 601 66 MHz, in a socketed 040 Turbo adapter, in a Mac IIcx? I like to try it, but I don’t know what to expect? Perhaps smoke or explosion? Or is there slim a chance of success? /K
  7. Have a IIcx with a SCSI2SD (v5) and a ROM-inator II. The Zip drive works just once after each power-up. Second boot seem to obstruct the SCSI2SD, leaving just the flashing-question-mark-disk on screen. Is this a termination problem? /k
  8. Green I suppose, but where can I find a new one? And how are they measured? Thank you, /K
  9. Hello all! I'm glad I could find a classic/ vintage Mac site that was still operational. I need some help. I just resurrected my beloved Mac IIcx. Got it used from a friend in 1991 and it helped me thru college. One day in 1994 I started it up and got the sad Mac chimes with just the sad Mac on screen (I don't remember seeing any codes). So into a box it went. Recently I rediscovered it. I fix PCs all the time so I thought I'd give it a crack but when I plugged it in all I got was clicking. After a washdown and rebuild with new Kemet Tantalum and EPCOS aluminum caps I'm at the same point I wa
