  1. Hello, This is a little bit of a blog post, if this is more suited to "The Lounge", please let me know. This is the story of my longest running Macintosh (nicknamed Pulse), which is still running 24/7 after 17 years. Intro A while ago, circa 2002-2003, an apple reseller gave me a dead G3/233 Desktop. When I said "dead", I mean it wouldn't boot and half of it was missing: - Top of the case was missing - The whisper personality card shield was missing - Case was bent, was probably dropped - No RAM - No HDD, No Optical Drive
  2. Hi all, this is a guide to my personal modifications to the Apple PowerMac G5 Quad rev.2 "dual-pump Delphi", pictured above. I will do my best to be thorough in my descriptions. Sadly I do not have pictures of my process in this version of the guide but I will be repeating this mod on another machine at some point in the next year or so in order to document the process properly and make a better-illustrated guide. In short, my mod involves removing the original DDC pump tops and replacing them with third-party blocks with multiple ports. This facilitates far easier draining and re
  3. This thread should probably be titled 'Doing Cruel and Unusual Things to PowerMac G4s - Part I', but hey. Here goes: The Prologue At the beginning fo this year I was looking for a new tablet. My trust Nvidia Shield K1 was very much showing it's age and infirmity. I looked around and there really aren't many good options for Android tablets, plus I wasn't really that happy with the progress of modern Android versions. I had a OnePlus 3T which had made it up to Android 9.0.x and didn't exactly fill me with joy. So, long story short, I wanted an iPad. I didn't have a ton of money
  4. So I am trying to recover files off an old, non functioning Performa 6116. The computer fails to power up. It could be a battery on the motherboard, could be a power supply, or who knows what. On Most old computers that have an IDE, EIDE, ATA or SATA drive I'd just pull out the hard drive, connect it to another computer via an external case, or adapter. Since the 6116 has a SCSI drive and my current computers use SATA I'm struggling with how to do this for a few reasons. 1) Is there an inexpensive SCSI enclosure that has a USB port that I can use? 2) If not an enclosure, Is there an adapte
  5. First time real post in the conquest section, as well as first time real post in some years on this site. By some sort of sheer blind luck I came across a Power Macintosh G3 AIO for free on Craigslist, albeit without the hard drive. I'm assuming it works from inspecting the board and internals and everything although I haven't yet connected it to power, but will do so tomorrow morning. What it is missing besides the hard drive though is the sled that the drive mounts on inside of the caddy that slides out of the back in order to service the board and drives. Besides canniba
  6. Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone knows how to rewire a standard ATX PSU to use in a powermac 8100, my IIci uses one and I have another spare for the 8100. Also, will soft power work straight away?
  7. I have finally completed my collection for the NEW OLD STOCK PowerMac G4 MDD. This machine is special because it runs Mac OS 10.5.8 and Mac OS 9.2.2 natively. I purchased all items separate and everything (including upgrades) was purchased NEW within the last 2 years. 1) PowerMac MDD 1.25ghz FW400 (2gb ram, 80gb & 250gb, AirPort Card, Upgraded Power Supply) The small drive has Mac OS 9.2.2/10.3 the larger has Mac OS 10.5.8 2) Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks III with sub 3) 17" Apple Studio Display 4) ADC to DVI adapter (to prevent damage to the power supply) 5) AirPort Extreme (firs
  8. Came across a guy who had found 2 B&W G3s and a Studio Display in his attic. Picked them up yesterday, had to troubleshoot them a bit, but sure enough, they came to life! One had no ram, one had two sticks (one bad). Studio display works for the most part, but has to be tapped every once in a while and has a horrible green and magenta effect on the screen. Thinking I might sell one if there's any interest. Cosmetically, one is a little rough.. missing side panel, scuffs and scratches, cracked or broken feet and handles. But it works! On a side note, I found this on the letgo app
  9. I need to reinstall Leopard on my iBook G4, however I have no dual-layer DVDs to burn my .dmg to. So, I need to boot from USB. I have heard that this has been done before through Open Firmware. How is this done? I might also need to install on my PMG5, so I'd like a method that works with that too. Thanks!
  10. I just bought a powerMac G5 with the Quad core 2.5GHz CPUs This machine is a super find (I plan on maxing out the memory and putting in an SSD) I dreamt about owning this machine when it was out in 2005 and now 10+ years later I have one! I was wondering if there any opinions out there about which OS does better on it 1) OS 10.4 2) OS 10.5 I've heard that OS 10.5 with the whole universal code thing slows things down. Also, I don't know if Safari in 10.4 will be so outdated that I won't be able to cruise the web at all. I'm also hoping to get a decent MacOS 9.2.2 s
  11. Hi Folks! I've finally decided to post details about my "vintage" mac setup on the Internet! I say vintage with quotes, as I don't really know if a 9600 would count as vintage... I also don't know if I'd call it a conquest, it's more a collection I've built up starting around late 90s.. It's a little.... Crazy. But I love it! If I can think of one community that would appreciate these specs, I think this one would be it.. I will try to post pictures later on this week, maybe tomorrow after work! For now, take a peek at this: --- BEGIN SETUP DETAILS --- Base System:
  12. I went to the Goodwill thrift shop in Columbus, NE when seeing a friend I made at Anime Nebraskon, and my wife and I found several things we wanted. I got several games including Oddworld (PS1 game), and several PC games, but I got a perfect in box (maybe installed once?) Diablo II BattleChest with LOD: Expansion pack and keys and strategy Guide. I also found a CD copy of Sim City 3000 for the Mac. I didn't know it was for Mac OS until I got it home and went to install it on Windows 98 SE. Is this rare? I looked on eBay and can't find a single copy of Sim City 3000 for Mac OS. I only foun
  13. From the album: Powermac 6100

This is my Powermac 6100/60 'nessa' running Debian Sarge (3.1) w/ kernel 2.4. I have X-Chat 2 open. It has become the bedputer.
