Wow, that's a very impressive unit.

I think the reaction against JDW is a little bit strong. While it is inappropriate to ask, he was just curious and asked a blunt question, so the response I see here was not in kind.
  3. Welcome to the forum! I was the one (or one of the ones) who emailed about a keyboard. It's an awesome lot, I just couldn't justify getting it just for a keyboard. Anyways the boxed G4 Cube is especially awesome, congrats! - Caleb

    Wow, super cool, thanks!
  5. It's something in the soft power circuitry that is supposed to have a combination of semiconductors to pass off the power on signal voltage from the 6v PRAM battery to the PSU Power On pin until it's turned off, when the computer sends a "power off" signal to it and cuts the voltage from the PSU to the PSU Power On pin.
  6. I'm guessing you're in the UK? I have a parts IIci that's mostly complete but might be difficult to ship things to the UK.
  7. You'll probably be able to reach Rob Blessin at nextcomputers.org, but if not, I was able to get help from him three years ago at the email address on this site: https://www.blackholeinc.com/specials/contact.shtml and he was very knowledgeable.
  8. Pretty remarkable that you did that without a hot air gun. I sure wouldn't have wanted to do that.
  9. I can't help but wonder, how do I wire the amber CRT as-is to work with a signal? [EDIT] From looking at it, it appears yellow is a composite signal, black is ground, and purple is +12v, and that's all there is. Pic where someone has wired a composite signal to the black and yellow CRT connection:
  10. I have a similar but less dramatic problem, the speaker sounds very quiet and a little tinny at startup, then once in the OS everything is normal. I'm totally confused. It's a board that had semi-major cap repair.
  11. Very cool, and thanks for the stls! RE the CRT without tabs: I thought one might be able to spot weld tabs onto the CRT, but then again, you might just cause the CRT to erupt. There's one with tabs on ebay for less last I checked, though.
  12. could I possibly get a copy of the stl for the adapters? I had the same problem with a CRT I tried to put in, but don't have 3D modeling skills to make an adapter..,
  13. Putting in a random address in the Netherlands returns an estimated shipping cost for up to a pound of $23.28 USD. Its $13 if I select "large envelope" but... especially with a bezel, an envelope would be impossible.
  14. I don't like hijacking maceffects, but I have a couple from a scrapped centris 610...
  15. Oh man, that is really nice.
  16. I've done that too, sometimes they're just ridiculously tight and break the plastics unreasonably
  17. Seconding that! Right where the CRT is screwed to the frame should be down, in my opinion.
  18. Will the M3979 be unable to use a drive bigger than 120gb at all, or only be able to see 120 of it? I looked in my drive stash, and I had 2x 160gb, one 250gb, and one 320gb IDE drives, but nothing smaller, so I'll have to either buy a smaller IDE drive or get a PCI card.
  19. Sure! I'd like the whole zip drive setup eventually. Alright, I'll keep an eye out for a Radeon 7000! Would a 7200 work with system 8? I don't know much about it, never messed around with it much. Thanks for the info! I like collecting machines more than software, so the way I look at it, if I wanted an OS X machine, I'd simply get another computer for it. I'd like to run System 8 or 9 on it, whichever is faster. I don't collect too many IDE HDDs under 160gb unfortunately, but I might be able to find a server SCSI drive. I know I have the adapter. There's a lot of options appar
  20. What about the audio card, are there any options to get video input with it? Does anyone want to do a Zip drive delete on their g3
  21. Thanks, that's interesting information! Will an SATA SSD be bottlenecked by the PCI bus? For video memory, does this look like it would work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/143566116522
  22. I recently got a PM G3 desktop and I was wondering about upgrades for it and also how to get an OS installed on it most effectively. It currently has a 1GB HDD, but it doesn't boot and according to everymac it isn't the original, so I'm wanting to replace it, but what is the best replacement for it? There's SCSI, onboard IDE, IDE on a PCI card, or maybe SATA in a PCI card, if thats not a waste of resources... Here's what I'm working with. 1) Whats the fastest hard drive/SSD option I can get for it? 2) Why is there a spot on the motherboard with 34 pins marked "floppy"?
  23. Awesome, thanks for the follow-up!
  24. Can't make this Macintosh related, but... I really wanted to show it off, I found an R550 on Yahoo Auctions Japan for 1300 yen. A while back, I had found a MC/R450, which is the same thing but with extra software installed, but someone had attacked it's motherboard with a screwdriver for some reason and it was totally dead. And when I got this R550 it had screen damage. Luckily for me, no harm had been done to the R450 screen nor ROM, so I swapped them over and it ran fine! Of all NEC Mobile Gear II devices, which are MobilePro devices but in Japanese, the R450/R550 are the highest specce
