  2. I'm not wanting to be a disturbance here; In fact I'm just keeping watch out of curiosity. I believe more external backside cache (as opposite to less, faster on-chip) would be a bigger help, given a slow frontside bus with even slower memory will disproportionately bottleneck a (300mhz+?) chip at each FSB transaction. To me the trick should be to avoid as many FSB transactions as they're the worst case scenario (even more here). More backside cache is likelier to do so, and the L1 will still do its job..
  3. @gpbonneau the lower-profile newertech card in the picture is the kind of newertech upgrade that could be a candidate for use in my 7100 (with the sonnet pds ribbon cable). I expect the clock multiplier is the only thing that prevents it from working in a 7100/8100 but, needless to say, mixing the sonnet ribbon cable with such a card to connect the HPV is way too scary to try; especially when I have no next to no spare parts (a single 7100/80 mainboard and a 2MB HPV).   4. Took some time to respond, sorry. I believe my card is an older version, yes. It has a purple heatsink, though I'm not sure that means anything. It was bought around 1999-2000 (dropped the 7100 board in a centris 650 case I had about a year before that) and has always been used in the 7100 since then. It was the cheapest model that came with 1MB backside cache at the time. And I'd say it's pretty much stable, no freezes as long as I don't access a file system via the SEIV at the same time the G3 is running.   6. I'm using 2.0rc2. Mind telling me if the SiliconExpress control panel detects your card in case you're using the same firmware version? For me it only does when 1.65 is in use, though with 1.65 disk throughput goes from 15MB/s to 5-6MB/s thus defeats the purpose of the card. It doesn't work with the G3 either. What crescendo/fortissimo G3 do you have exactly?

Not too long ago I returned on my PM 7100/80, which right now has a sonnet PDS g3 260/1M, a 4MB HPV card connected via the g3 card's ribbon cable, and one nubus slot used by an Atto SiliconExpress IV. For a few reasons (among others, using a disk attached to the SEIV at the same time the G3 is enabled freezes the machine without exception) I'm looking for a comparable newertech G3 upgrade. G3 upgrades sales seem to become sparse, sort of. There's a couple listings on ebay that are not reasonable to me, price-wise. While I'm unsure getting a newertech upgrade would make
  8. If the card isn't bootable, I am a bit confused for the fact I managed to boot on the drive connected to it. I gave up on getting it to work on my IIci after another week of unsuccessful attempts. At least my Power Macintosh can use it.
  9. I tried on 7.5 on my powermac and 7.1 on my IIci. 7.5 works fine. I just thought about something. Can a mac IIci use two scsi buses at once? The only thing i havent mentionned is that I boot from my onboard scsi while the card is on. I'm going to try it only with a drive on the SEIV. Atto never mentionned in their manuals that you could use both buses. The only instructions are for using the same drive with the Silicon Express IV.
  10. I boughta pair of Atto SEIV on ebay about half a month ago. My first goal was to get one of those "monsters" to work with my mac IIci which boots mac OS 8.1 (mostly) on a large 72 gb Fujitsu 10000rpm ultrascsi drive. When they shipped: first thing should have known before was that those two cards weren't always well-treated. I couldn't see it on the only picture on the listing, but four or five pins on a chip for each card were bent and causing short-circuit. Since I wanted these cards so bad, I spent (almost 2hrs) to straighten them up correctly with a sharp blade. What a waste. I put

Else than not being able to boot OS 9, would there be any other problem with using it on a 2001 QS? Will the screen show up only after booting?   13. I don't have one for now. I should try, though! I changed my mind about recapping, since they all are surface-mount ceramic capacitors. At least I retried my sony 17" and horizontal bars are less visible and less frequent. The other problem seems to be gone.
  14. So i bought that Supermac thunder /24 (rom v3.00) to get better screen resolutions and to switch between them without having to play on the adapter switches. Pulled the 8•24 gc from my mac IIci and put the supermac instead. Works fine and has good image quality, except for the horizontal waves that show up occasionnally and half of the screen that sometimes move for a tick. I tried two other lcd displays, other apple multisync cables, reslotted it once and plugged it directly to the display(I use a display switcher). The waves are still showing up and the screen still moves sometimes.
  15. Update: Since my program wasn't working, I reupload it. This time, it includes equates, arithmetical expression processing for immediate data and more. Also, I made it as crash-proof as possible: I tried changing an 1.4 mb image's file type into TEXT and processing it with 2mb of RAM. It didn't crash. It can run with 32kb of ram if the file isn't too big, although I suggest at least 64kb. It is tested and runs on system 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 9.0.4, and should run on 5.x and earlier. It also is Classic-compatible. The only problem is that it won't quit correctly on Mac Os 9.1 and 9.2, and
