  1. Is there a good source for buying premade disks? I’d like to get a good one working before I request a refund.
  2. Accelerator is removed, its one I purchased off ebay as a newly created disk. This is my first vintage Mac and I cannot test it elsewhere.
  3. I finally got a screwdriver long enough to open and inspect the Macintosh Plus, Opened it up and found a Dove Marathon 030 accelerator that had popped off the board. I removed that and checked everything else, it has a 4mb upgrade and the resistor has been cut correctly. I have a 6.0.8 boot disk but when I turn it on I get a beep and a happy Mac but after the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen pops up it starts flickering. When I push the interrupt button I only get a ">". The boards looks very good and I have checked major spots for bad solder joints and such. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I was thinking that it might not be a bad thing to have all that shielding on my model. It’s going to live next to my radio gear so it will probably be a benefit for me to have that protection.
  5. Oh Nice! I’m relived that someone else actually has one and I didn’t have the only one in existence. I’m a little surprised it looks just like the one in the brochure to be honest, very few things seem to be exactly as described these days.
  6. As much as I don't believe in any of it myself, I think the story and history of the computer is pretty interesting and will let it stand apart from some more normal and pristine examples.
  7. OK final update until the machine arrives. Let me just start with Archive.org is an incredible resource. I have found articles and books relating to the ELF armor here is a list below to what I have found so far. This was 100% targeted at protecting the user from ELF (Extreme Low Frequency) Radiation that at the time was being investigated for links to cancer and other ailments. From what I have read it the devices do what they claim to do (cut radiation) and are not snake oil. Put a Faraday cage around anything and you will cut its radiation I suppose. 8. I have been doing some digging and I am getting closer. I found this article describing the patent for this, https://patents.justia.com/patent/5399939 . It mentions both products installed on the Mac as references to their brochures. EDIT: Google patent link to actual patent https://patents.google.com/patent/US5399939A/en EDIT2: I found the NoRad Corp Item https://web.archive.org/web/19970215235208/http://noradcorp.com/shield.htm It seems MOS8_030 was correct and this is targeted towards Tin Foil hatted people
  9. That is super interesting, I had never heard of that term before abbreviated that way. I’m a little embarrassed being a HAM and not noticing that connection. I can’t wait to see what kind of shielding is actually inside once I get to open it up.
  10. I thought of it more as armor and elf would wear into battle lol
  11. Here is the picture from the eBay ad. I will get better pictures inside and out once it arrives in a few days.
  12. Hi All, I finally took the plunge and purchased myself a 68k Macintosh to restore, I found a very curious example on eBay and was hoping someone could help shed some light on it’s more interesting accessories. I am still waiting for it to arrive in the mail and the eBay description was rather vague. The pictures of the Mac show a sticker proclaiming it has “Elf Armor Magnetic Field Protection Fairfield Engineering” and there is also some sort of screen cover that has a sticker that says “Anti- Glare, Radiation, Static NoRad Corp.”. My best guess is this has come out of some sort of
