Powerbook 150 powers up moment adapter plugged in

Recommended Posts

Hello

My 150 starts up the moment its original power adapter is plugged in.

(NOTE: removable battery is not connected but I can test with it plugged in even though the battery is dead. The internal PRAM battery has been desoldered as it was just beginning to leak).

I read in another thread on 68kmla that I should not use the Shutdown menu in similar cases as it might make it contentious to power on the machine in the future.

Secondary (related?) issue: After the 150 sits idle for a while, the energy saver kicks in and sleeps the screen and HD as expected but on wake (tapping a key on keyboard) the trackball ceases to respond to clicks or scrolling even though the Finder remains working as expected.

Reference: This machine has been reassembled after repairing the display's plastic bezel because it had separated from the display. PRAM battery was removed during repair.

I should have checked first.

The removable battery has been reinserted. The machine no longer boots immediately after attaching the power adapter. The machine turns on only after pressing the power button.

1x0 'books often have teething problems starting up, related to the removable battery usually.  From what you have described, it's fairly normal and not suggestive of any issues.

Replace the PRAM battery.

If the PRAM battery is missing or dead it will behave that way. (This will also affect sleep/wake as well.)

The regular battery probably has just enough juice to keep the PRAM from resetting.
