Fizzbinn Report post Posted November 24 Does anyone have a recommendation for an IDE PATA CD-R/CD-RW drive for pre OS X Macs? I’d like to replace the 24x CD-ROM drive in my beige G3 tower with one that will work in Mac OS 9 via Apple’s native authoring tools and/or Toast.

EvilCapitalist Report post Posted November 26 Sony should be a safe bet as well. I've seen them as upgrades in both Beige and B&W G3s and iTunes and Toast picks them up just fine.
Fizzbinn Report post Posted November 26 Sound like it might be easier than I thought. I was thinking the drive would have needed to be introduced before the last Mac OS 9 release in 2001 for general ROM/OS support (ability to boot from it). Ideally I was hoping to figure out and find a CD-RW or CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive or DVD-R/CD-RW SuperDrive of the specific model that shipped with the G4 Digital Audio/Quicksilver models that came out in 2001. LaPorta Report post Posted November 26 I picked up a drive for $5 at Goodwill (DVD-ROM/CD burner) and it works perfectly. Even most drives that only specify windows, I find that the Apple CD extension can drive them just fine.
