    • I've finally got around to sorting through a box of broken logic boards that I inherited. Four or five of them are 128k and 512k boards, so I figured that it would definitely be worthwhile to try and get them going again. I have a 128k that was chip-for-chip upgraded to 512ke, and I want to backdate it to 128k with 400k drive for historical curiosity. The other boards will be available to others once I am done! This is what I built my test rig for: being able to quickly diagnose boards like this:     The majority of the boards are throwing what appear to be RAM-related errors, which, to my research, appears to be quite common with these machines, especially those with original, Apple-screened RAM. All visible errors are one-liners, starting with 04 and one with 03. So, to start, does anyone have a good, reliable source of the 64 and 256 kbit RAM chips these thing take at a reasonable cost?

    • Yes, especially if it's an RTL8139 (which has got to be one of the most common NIC chipsets on the planet, and it has driver support to match; in my experience, it seems to have drivers for just about every version of Windows, DOS, and Mac OS 8.6 and up, plus numerous linuxes/unixes/BSDs and I think even OS/2).   c
    • You have an SE/30 with an ethernet card in it and you want to transfer 50MB of file from a G4 to the SE/30, if I understand you correctly. Why not use a hub or a crossover cable? Is there a problem with differing versions of AppleShare? I don't understand why you need/want to use a LocalTalk-to-Ethernet-Bridge. Localtalk is sloooooow.   If you are going down the sneakernet route, Zip isn't bad, MO likewise, but you shouldn't overlook the external SCSI2SD (v5.5).     • Just a question for you:  What caps did you install on your Q610?  I ask because I put a set on mine that I thought I would test out (higher voltage) and it made the system not recognize SCSI similar to yours.  I then desoldered the caps I freshly installed, and went back to my normal capacitors and voila! it worked perfectly.
