Tandy 100/102 in '08 Challenge

Recommended Posts

I noticed Arfink and Gobabushka are looking to use a Tandy 102 in the challenge, that is cool. Do either of you have the expansion based that allows the Tandy 100 to display on a 80 column monitor and use 5 1/2 inch disks? That was a fun add on to the Tandy 100.

As for getting on the internet, I saw using a UDS-10 (Lantronx). Should be possible since this works with my Atari 800 quite nicely.

Let me know if you have any questions on the Tandy 100 and various stuff... Prior to the Newton my portable in high school (in the 80's) was a Tandy 100. :D

Later!

Hey! I'm using one too! What am I? Chopped liver? [:D]]'>

Anyhow, I've been after a Disk/Video interface for my M100 for ages - they occasionally pop up on eBay but I keep getting outbid :(

Next to the Rampac, it's the ultimate Model 100/102 addon!

How much do they usually go for?

Here is the UDS-10, no power supply, untested...

I'm getting with the owner to see if she will let me test the Lantronix. I am using a UDS-10 on my Atari 800 as I type this on the G3 Wallstreet. Neat device. If I could convince that person to let me test both, and if both work, offer to sell to you at say $40-$50, and then change the usual $100 for the other... :D

Could be nice.

Yeh think I need to take my Tandy 100 for a spin on the UDS-10. :D

I did it!! Took it for a fun spin, and wrote two messages on the Retrochallenge BBS about it. One was on my blog "bClu", and the other was on the general board...

Title: Here on Tandy 100

Date: Thu Jul 3 04:31:19 2008

Just in support of our guys wanting to get the Tandy 100 on the internet I

just wanted to show what was possible.

I have the Tandy 100 talking to here using a Lantronix UDS-10. I'm using

the standard telcom program. So the screen right now is very confusing.

To help with this, I am using a...

...oops, broke off. Guess you'll need to log into the Retrochallenge BBS and read the rest. ;)

(Hey I like the webforum as well as the BBS, just leaving that other part in the interest of equal time. )

Usually, they go for some ungodly amount. The last one I saw went up to $200 before I stopped watching.

It's insane...

Ok if I was to communicate an offer to someone who has one of those, what would you offer for one? :)

Nah, not really interested anymore. Thanks anyway, though! :)

I'm scaling back my computer hobbies - I just took stock of all the "retro" computer hardware I've bought in the last year or so, and it easily topped $6000 8-o

I've decided to save for a condo instead.

But I definately understand.

Gee conceitedjerk, that's alot of money! I have spent $150 in the last year on retro hardware. That includes my new Lantronix MSS-VIA that I bought on ebay for $35, and my Tandy 102 which I bought for taking notes at school for the princely sum of $25. Look up "Lantronix server" or "Lantronix MSS" or "Lantronix serial" to find the cheap ones. The UDS series devices are more expensive because they are new, even though the older ones work just fine. Look on Lantronix's website for all their discontinued models and try to find those on ebay.

As for the Tandy, the ultimate upgrade in my mind is something sold by the guys at Bitchin 100, called the Remem. It is like the Rampak but has more storage space by far, and you can install it INSIDE the Tandy 100/102 instead of piggy-back.

Yeah, it's an expensive hobby :)

My Amiga upgrades before and during the Winter Warmup were nearly a grand... What can I say, a fool and his money are soon popular ;)

The Remem rocks, I've been debating getting one myself. Wasn't someone also working on an update to the rampak (irampak or something) or was that superceded by the Remem...?

I really should sort through my inbox - there are a few thousand Club 100 list messages i haven't read yet !

Still cheaper than smack... (though not quite as socially acceptable).

I haven't actually kept track, but I'd almost guarantee I've spent twice as much on retro stuff as I have on new gear. If I hadn't got into the Apple IIs I could have a dual G5 instead of a first generation eMac.

Oh well... priorities ;)
