Considering getting an iBook...

Recommended Posts

I was looking at Wegener Medias site...iBook

And I looked at the iBooks.. My Birthday is in 2 weeks so I though, hey, birthday present..

My questions...

All apply to 12" only

1. 500Mhz/10Gig or 600Mhz/15Gig... Worth the $50? I'm also getting the 256mb Ram upgrade.

2. Battery life. Has anyone ever bought an iBook from them , aand how was the battery life?

Thanks!

For a difference of $50, the faster CPU and larger drive is worth it, if for no other reason than all the trouble you'd have to go through to try to upgrade it later assuming the CPU in those is replaceable and not soldered to the board.

I don't know about the battery life, but I think there is an aftermarket battery available for those with a longer lifespan than the ones that Apple originally shipped them with. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was one of the more popular used Mac dealers so it shouldn't be too hard to find with Google.

I bought an iBook G4 for my daughter around Christmas (as some of you remember) and luckily there was a recall on the battery, so I got a new one from Apple. With it, it lasts a pretty long darn time, and I only have to remind her to plug it back in to charge once every few days.

The 600 has a faster system bus (100 MHz vs. 66 MHz). Getting the larger hard drive is also nice as it is exceptionally difficult to upgrade the hard drive in an iBook.
