  1. Hey there. So I have an issue with my power mac G4 MDD the 876 MHz model. Recently won a bid for two, one works great this one, not so much. Had to replace both hard drives as they just clicked. Installed mac OS 9.2.2 for MDD power macs on them. The one machine works perfect, the 876mhz one wont fully boot. Gets to the Mac OS 9.2 screen then the screen flickers and goes black with just a mouse pointer. It freezes up, even the power button does nothing. Have to un plug it. However, when I remove the video card the machine will boot up I believe but I cant tell. I believe it boots fully because the power button in now responsive and will put the machine to sleep when I press it. If I put the video card back in it, the same results happen. It freezes with the black screen and just a mouse pointer. The video card does show an image when the machine is turned on and shows it booting. It just gets to a point every time and will freeze. Not sure what to do here other than order another video card. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
  2. Hi guys, I just bought a DP 800 G4 and I want to replace the videocard. According to Wikipedia the DP800 can use a Geforce 3 (64MB) I do see the odd comment online about using higher spec videocards though (like an FX5500) I plan to use OS 9.2.2 on this machine and use it primarily for games. Anyone have any experience on maxing out a G4 with 9.2.2? Also, anyone know of any guides to flash a Geforce card to work with Macs? Thanks again ahead of time.
  3. Here's an easy one (for you guys) Does any1 have a digram of the PCI slots and their speeds for the Power Mac G5 (11,2)? I'm trying to make sure I install a new GPU in the fastest PCI slot on the machine. Looking around the internet I find no diagrams with specific enough labels for the slots. Thanks.
  4. Hi guys, I just installed 16GB of PC2 6400 RAM into a Late 2005 G5 (11,2) The memory is showing as PC2-3200U-288 in the system info. QUESTION 1: Would I benefit from installing actual PC2 4200 RAM into the machine? (Which is the specified maximum speed for the machine) GeekBench2 in 32 bit mode gives a benchmark of 3370 which seems to be OK for this class of machine. QUESTION 2: Would using non ECC vs ECC make a notable difference? Thank you guys.
  5. Hi guys, I'm trying to buy an Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 for my Power Mac G5. I notice on eBay there are a bunch of "mac" Quadros that don't have RAM on both sides as prescribed by this guide. http://g5center.net/index.php?post=the-fx4500--your-g5 Anyone have any experience flashing the firmware of a quadro that DOESN'T have RAM on both sides? Will the quadro firmware from the page below work for quadros that don't have double sided RAM? http://themacelite.wikidot.com/wikidownloads2 The quadros not labeled with 'mac' seem to be a lot cheaper.
  6. Hi guys, With your help I got the G5 (hardware 11,2) running Classic Mode. BadGoldEagle posted a link to a Classic Mode tutorial http://web.archive.org/web/20121026093607/http://flylib.com/books/en/4.299.1.61/1/ but the Classic mode on my G5 seems to behave differently A couple of things: 1 - I can't seem to get a version of Stuffit to install in the Classic environment. Stuffit 651 installs but it's in the OSX environment. Stuffit 703 starts the install but then it states that it cannot install in the OSX environment. I had thought that with Classic Mode installed, if a program can't run in OSX it runs it in Classic (9.2.2 in my case) 2 - I don't know how to mount a DSK file in the 9.2.2 classic environment. The stuff on the web seems to all talk about how to mount it in OS 10.x 3 - Sometimes when I start Classic Mode it starts a utility that asks me to specify a disk to use. I'm not sure what to do when that happens. I thought Classic mode would just see the files I see in OSX. Sorry for all the noob questions. I'm totally lost :0
  7. Hi guys, I'm trying to install Mac OS 10.4 on a Power Mac G5 (11,2) The install disc I'm using is a 10.4 Install Disk with Xcode 2 that I bought from eBay. When I try to boot from the DVD I get a kernel panic. The kernel version is Darwin 8.0.0 I then tried to boot into Safe Mode where the topline error is "Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerMac11,2" Looking further on eBay it appears that nobody differentiates versions of Mac OS that are compatible with the 11.2 hardware revision for the G5. When I try to boot into single user mode I get a kernel panic again. Can anyone let me know what I can do? Is there a special version of 10.4 I can use for a G5 with 11,2 hardware? Two incidental things: 1 - I'm using a 256GB SSD as the HDD, it is unformatted. I've tried both Bay A and B. 2 - I'm using a non-Apple USB mouse, not sure if this has anything to do with this. BTW, I'm trying to do this so that I can use Classic Mode to play games on this thing. Hope you guys can help this poor Mac-noob!
