SE/30 - ceramic recap causing distorted audio?

The ceramics themselves should be totally fine to use. There are debatable thoughts about the long term effects, but for this use they are functionally equivalent. The solder job looks ugly though. I would also suspect that the board was not properly cleaned.

    Quantum ProDrive Rubber Replacement

I've used a few o-rings stacked with success. I have links here: http://www.asterontech.com/Asterontech/Quantum_ProDrive_40s_Restore.html

    AppleCD Plus M3021 won't mount cd's and cd-roms

@bushok The connector should be fine. Just clean it with a qtip. @techknight Yes, the original SC drive is way more complicated to work on. So many connectors...

    AppleCD Plus M3021 won't mount cd's and cd-roms

The flat ribbon cable is the only one to be really concerned with breaking. The yellow cables just use a firm grip and rock side-to-side a bit.

Yeah, the black discoloration on the back side is due to the capacitors leaking. The board otherwise looks in OK shape, so you probably have a high chance of success.

    AppleCD Plus M3021 won't mount cd's and cd-roms

I've done about a dozen of these and only had one bad laser assembly so I guess I'm bias in the other direction. The good news is it only takes a few minutes open it up and confirm.

It could be the laser, but I think is more likely caps on the logic board. See my guide here: http://www.asterontech.com/Asterontech/next_cdrom_refurb.html

    ProtoCache1.1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype

Awesome work! Count me in for one of each. Any interest in selling kits or bare boards?

    New Lisa Hardware Coming

In this case I imagine their production costs are probably really high selling fully populated boards. Maybe in the future they may consider selling bare boards, but unless you have the parts on hand that quickly gets expensive as well. A team of 4 essentially recreating the entire machine (outside of CRT of course) is awesome. Nobody gets rich from vintage hardware, and I suspect there's no way they will recoup the time/materials they spent on this. Real engineering hours are -not- cheap.
  10. Wow this is really cool! The direction you're headed this could easily become an all-in-one solution for any vintage machine.

Color Classic G4 Cube upgrade? Anyone?

Yeah, I think a mac mini would be perfect for this. I think you could even manage to do it without hacking the case because the board is low profile enough. Power/video could be taken from the existing backplane, and a solid state drive could be laid to the side or on top of the board.

    Dyeing keyboards

I'm curious how the vinyl dye will hold up with use. It's really not that durable of a finish in my experience and doesn't penetrate very deep. I've used it on CDROM/floppy faceplates in the past.

    ADB To Atari ST Converter

It's very easy to do with an arduino. I have documented PS/2 to NeXT conversion here: http://www.asterontech.com/Asterontech/next_ps2_mouse.html Everything will be the same for the mac or Atari except the pinout at the computer side.

    ADB To Atari ST Converter

Usually serial cables have a thicker insulation which is not ideal for a mouse.
