    M0403 Apple Universal Monitor Stand

    Hi @ktkm, Yes I tried it with my "M0401" 13" AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor. For it to fit the stand, I had to remove the front circular plug from the bottom of the monitor firstly. Then the puck for the stand fits in that hole, with the feet being captured on the back side of the raised Ts. Hope that makes sense! I could take some pictures if really needed.

    I wouldn’t think we would need to bother with sense bits? Shouldn’t the monitor take care of that? I mean, if we were trying to force different resolutions on a 3rd party display, sure... but this is Apple hardware to Apple hardware. No? Funny, when searching Google, Apple still has technical information posted on the portrait: https://support.apple.com/kb/TA43900?locale=en_US EDIT: Found the cable pinouts in the Apple Peripheral Interface Guide. Looks like there’s a typo in that the column headers are reversed, but it matches my tone out. No mention of a diode.

    I toned out my portrait display cable a while ago for another member. It's a little different than what jt posted. Mainly the outside barrels are swapped, and there is no short between pin 4 and pin 7. Drawing is while looking at the cable ends.

    Troubleshooting something like this is not easily done; it is why you are not getting a whole lot of suggestions on how to proceed. First off, the ARTMIX card. Do you have anyway to test it? Have you tested for shorts across the capacitors on that card? It would be the easiest of the two cards to troubleshoot, and you shouldn't rule it out. It needs to be verified firstly. Following that, As you suggest, the most likely candidate is SIZ0, but we can't dismiss that other pins received wrong voltages and are suspect as well. If you look in the DCaDftMF under the IIci Cache slot descriptions, it also lists the load limits. Mostly in the µA - .x mA range. It also describes the function of the signals, including the CACHE signal. "CACHE, an active-high signal, disables the memory controller (MDU) so that it cannot start a memory cycle and allows the cache card to supply the data instead." The main problem, most of these signals are processed by either the ASIC or the PALs-- or more likely, both. All are irreplaceable if damaged. The programmable logic in the PALs are programmed at the time of manufacture, and unless you have the JEDEC fusemap, they are realistically impossible to recreate without a working card, a logic analyzer, a good knowledge of the function of the pin you are decoding, and a whole lot of time. But a funny thing, I search up "VY14676-2" (the ASIC) into Google, and there are several "part suppliers" that show this part in stock, and even manufactured by Daystar. Of course, no way to tell the validity, or if these are Chinese scammers. But if the cost is only a few dollars (no, I did not price them), perhaps worth a try? If this were my card, I'd have to limit my troubleshooting to something I could repair. In this case, a component tester on all the commodity parts (hot air removal) to check if they are good. Check the resistors and capacitors on the back. (boring, and a goose chase most likely, I know). Replace the CPU with a good one, and as a last resort, try one of those ASICs if cost allows. I have a second card, so I could also check for burned internal traces. Choose a signal pin on the CPU socket (these are known by looking at the CPU pinout) and see where it goes and verify on the bad card. Do the same with the signals on the cache slot connector. Of course, with schematics, this process would be infinitely easier. If a burned internal trace is found, repair with a bodge wire. I wish the best of luck, and so sorry this has happened!

    The CACHE slot connector has two signals, SIZ0 and SIZ1 on pins C40 and C39. But on the PDS connector, pin C40 is +12V. So, during the EB, instead of the low current signal SIZ0 reaching the accelerator, it was supplied with high current +12V. The DCaDftMF stands for Designing Cards and Drivers for the Macintosh Family. It contains all the pinouts and technical information for the Macintosh family of computers. You can google the title and find a pdf version online.

    Such heart-breaking to hear! So sorry, and dang it! You can try checking the tantalum caps on the back side for continuity. They shouldn't be shorted. So if you find one that conducts through, it's toasted and needs replacement. I don't want to suggest it will fix the entire board, but I have now repaired two PDS cards which held up the rail, stopping the computer from startup, both due to shorted tantalum caps. Ethernet cards in my case, but with some serious luck, maybe?

    ProtoCache for the SE/30 - What's the status?

    The project was completed. I successfully decoded the PAL logic and created schematics, both are posted in the original ProtoCache thread. @Bolle designed a pair of amazing boards and offered a few batches for sale. I am unsure if he plans any future product. If not, one could design a board using the schematics and something like KiCAD. The board is somewhat elementary. Given some free time, I still plan to design my own board, but I have very many projects I'd like to work on before then.

    I have a Quantum 540S drive and can confirm the resistor packs are marked E111G, which as Trag pointed out is a 110 ohms SIP-10 Bussed Resistor Array, verified with my multimeter.

    Well the Carrera040 will happily exist in an SE/30 with the IIsi adapter, remaining inactive. But once the INIT and control panel are placed, the system bombs with an address error.
  14. I thought it was the mouse freezing in System 7.5, and the 2.6 ROM fixed it, but can't remember for sure.

    Another Laserwriter

    I still use my LaserWriter Pro 630 with my modern equipment, including Windows 10 and Mojave. Prints just lovely. Text just flies through that thing, but a document with a lot of graphical detail can take a bit too long to process. I've been thinking of retiring her for something a wee bit quicker.
