    iBook G4

8 or 16 mb video card ? thats the only thing i dont like about my 600 mhz ibook the 8 mb video card other then that is a huge improvement over my 500 mhz (who stil works fine thank you) its amazing how much difference 64 mb extra ram a 33 mhz faster fsb and 100 mhz extra make the 500 chugged with panther while tiger soars on the 600 mhz

picked up a 2001 quicksilver recently with a new psu 512 mb of ram 60 gig hd and a sad sad ati rage 128 16 mb video card for 50 euro 733 mhz i upgrade the ram to 1 gig when i got it home and other then the sad excuse for a video card which i want to replace its running just fine if a bit sluggish under tiger ( no plans to upgrade to leopard i dont like the looks of leopard and only have it on my intel imac for bootcamp) i do wonder if its possible to upgrade the QS to dual 800 or dual 1 ghz with cpu's from the 2002 line or are they pin and fsb incompatible ? i took a look at the sonnet upgrades and those are hellishley expensive i like the QS but for that kind of money im better of buying an MDD that needs little upgrading what so ever stil all in al its a good machine even if it hates me

    iBook G4

thats a very nice little book the smal form facor and almost endless battery life ( 6 hours on mine ) is what i like the most on these icebooks mine is just a G3 600 though

so far leopard is running fine on the QS i dont notice too much slow down i used leopard assist and an external dvd drive to install leopard other then the pain of waiting 2 hours for the installation to be complete over usb 1.1 it all went just fine im not very keen on the looks of leopard though anyway possible to make the dock look more like the tiger dock ?

    flashed video card

i did not modify the geforce was not needed the card is an AGP 4X physical modification isnt needed thats the reason i flashed the geforce 3 ti 200 over the geforce fx 5200 which does need modification other then a some what garbeld boot up screen the card performs just fine in mac os X it self it even pushes leoaprd around with enough clout
  8. i managed to flash one of my video cards an nvidia geforce 3 ti 200 for the quicksilver it works just fine but when the Qs boots and displays the grey apple screen said screen is al garbelded is there a reason for this and something i can do about it ? the QS is now humming to it self and updating tiger
  9. bluekatt

the Qs is now running with a geforce 3 ti 200 massive improvement i see leopard in its future ..kinda maybe
  10. bluekatt

well right now id rather have a better video card thena better cpu ( though a dual 800 mhz Qs would be nice) tiger is already struggeling with just the screen saver with this card so off i go to look for a junker pc all it needs to do is boot of a floppy post and reconigse a screen keyboard and 2 video cards

i am not making fun of it ...much its better then the 8 mb ati mobility in my ibook G3 500 its just frustrating that i have 4 better video cards that i cant use at the moment im glad it stil works and my lcd was dying not the card other wise my QS woudl be useless but tiger is already struggeling with it let alone leopard
  14. bluekatt

followed by the cc ...urgh i actually always liked the G3 all in one an imac with full upgrade options

its a pc nvidia card an geforce3 ti 200 agp 4X some forums say that its bios is mac compatible because it has a dvi port ( i doubt that ) i mostly keep it in the agp slot to cover up the unsightly hole in the back cover and because the mac will boot with it it refuses to boot with the agp 8X cards im also eying to flash this one instead fo the others i dont have to modify it in anyway or shape and 64 mb is plenty for an old QS anyway what games am i going to do run on it other then the sims 2 dungeon siege and older mac os 9 ? its not as if i plan to use leopard assist and install leoaard ...though im tempted just to see what it will do
  16. not the early the later G3's were the most notorious are the 700 800 and 900 mhz units the 500 and 600 mhz units tend to be rock solid

    iMac G4 hard drive question

i remember actually taping the hd tot he upper half of my imac G4 with heat resistant double sided tape it was missing the whole rack and i had to improvise

id love to get my hands on that sonnet upgrade and the QS dislikes me because it sees my geforce 3 ti 200 ( i plugged in to cover up the unsightly hole in the back ) it sees it as a nvidia card but wont actually do anything with nor can i find any drivers
  21. None of the Prozessor Upgrades is listed(!) to work with a G4 with 167MHz System Bus speed. Not Powerlogix, not Sonnettech, not FastMac, Not Newertech, Not OWC, not GigaDesigns will work with 167MHz. Any other experiances? If yes, please tell me - thats the meaning of that thread! what exactly do you need an upgrade for on a 1,25 or 1,42 ghz MDD ? that machine on its own is already a monster especially if you have the 1,42 ghz version the speed difference between the 1,42 ghz and a 1,8 or 2,0 versions are neglicable hunt down an MDD they are bette rmore versatile machines and are already mostly tricked out id rather have an MDD then a QS
  22. why you want an os 9 only machine is beyond me but the last os 9 capabel machien apple offerd was the 2003 reintroduction of the 1,25 dual G4 MDD
  23. recently i got my hands on a 2001 QS 733 with a vile ati rage 128 pro card with a piddly 16 mb ram and the rage 128 just decided to die ...typical as it happens i actually happen to have four spare video cards 3 agp and one pci an radeon 7000 32 mb ( pci ) an ati rage 128 pro with 32 mb ram ( agp ) an nvidia geforce 3 ti 200 64 mb (agp) an nvidia geforce fx 5200 128 mb ( agp) and a radeon 9600 se with 128 mb (agp) the radeon is right out the QS wont even boot with it let alone it being usable ideally the fx 5200 or the geforce 3 will do if not for the fact that the fx 5200 needs physical modification to work in my QS ...nevermind that then so that laeaves me with the nvidia geforce 3 the rage pro or the radeon 7000 nwo my question is how the bloody hell do i flash these mongrels for the mac ? i cant even find the tools or rom dumps i need for the others let alone actually do it the only one i foudn anything for is the radeon 7000 on cube owners and even that is for the agp card so am i up a certain creek with out a paddle or can i actually flash one of these ? (preferbly the geforce 3 )

    reflashing a pc videocard

from what i under stand the reason why we have to hack in tot he video cards is because apple decided to use the then unassigned pins 3 and 11 for their adc protocol a few years later when agp 8X was released pins 3 and 11 were assigned to draw power the older powermacs are looking for something on the newer cards thats not there the psu's in macs are upgradable just dont ask how
