I found something very disturbing at work today, and its got me feeling quite militant right now. Sitting in a small, windowless 10x10 room sits a practically unused IIsi in its original box (pristine condition) where it has apparently sat, untouched for several years. What a waste! What's more, I'm told they can't let it go as it formally doesn't even belong to the company. It was a loaner from Apple which they never bothered to collect! I'd go visit it, but the room is locked and my passkey doesn't have access. :-(-Brad ______________________________________ www.32bitwonder.org ...because it's possible |

I recently picked up a IIsi. Not a bad little box. It's Road Apple designation on LEM is not justified, IMO.Maybe you can write Apple about their uncollected computer and convince Apple/your boss that it is OK to be liberated. I plan on doing just that. There's no reason why it should be hold up in that room any longer.Mind you, I really can't complain. I've scored both a SE/30 and a 8100/110 (G3) in less than a week. Still, it riles me that the IIsi sits unappreciated like that. Anyone here from Winnipeg CANADA? We should stage a raid! :-) -Brad ______________________________________ www.32bitwonder.org ...because it's possible |

I'm sory... (read: NEW IN FSDKING BOX!!!!)that is AMAZING!!!! If I were you, I'd check for any special apple things like a NuBus card that wasn't ever released, or special software or something... Also, I'd try to keep it in as good as condition as possible... I'm sure that even now, it's worth A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY!!! you don't NEED to tell apple or your company that not only is the iisi a great performing little machine, but that it's "NIB" status is highly saught after good luck with getting it! Yes, IIsi's are great. I grabbed one from a sleepy computer store in my town for $10. I was in middle school at the time, fighting a massive guerilla campaign against steadily increasing Dell boxen. My primary weapons there were LC IIs, but we came by III's, IIsis, and even a few PowerMac 5200s now and then. I took the IIsi to the science prep room at school that we were operating from and it sat on a counter next to our stack of pizza box Macs keeping inventory with Excel 3. Before I took it home at the end of the year, I was lucky enough to come across a dead IIsi in a cabinet full of unused Mac parts and swapped in an 80MB drive for the original 40, and 17 MB of RAM for the original 5. It also got a NuBus adapter, which was filled by an original Mac II video card and then an Ethernet card. Now a friend is borrowing it and running it with an awesome dual monitor setup (the II video card is back in). Truly an excellent box. The RAM Muncher INIT is a must, and if you get the time, overclock it to 25 MHz, as all of the parts are rated to perform at that speed.I spent a year on the public school front in the war against Microsoft. |

wow... you had teachers that would let you operate something like that out of a science prep room?My school in WA had science prep rooms... but our school was brand new just the other year... so we began with ONLY dells... except my science teacher's TiBook... had I still gone to school there today, I might even have brought my own TiBook.... dunno though Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
