Hi,

I got my hands on PB 190cs with 24 MB RAM and 500MB disk.
I formatted the disk and got OS 8.0 installed., which took 74.5MB as I did a custom install.

Now, what softwares/games/utilities will make this PB ideal ?
I want to use this PB as my organiser / information management.

I have some programmes in mind, but will they run ?

Please complete my list ..

1. Clariswork - [what version will work here ?]
2. Filemaker - [ what version will work here ?]
3. ram doubler ..
4. disk doubler ..
5. games -- prince of persia, ?

-- please point me the software with versions and their URL if possible.

Be sure to update to 8.1 if you'll be running OS 8. I recommend 7.6.1 with the Appearance extension; it's significantly snappier.

ClarisWorks up to version 5 will work on 68k, IIRC. An old version of Office for Macintosh (Word 6, etc.) will also work well.

You won't need RAM Doubler or Disk Doubler on this machine. Trust me.

Games are available from http://mac.the-underdogs.org or off of various Hotline servers (search tracker-tracker.com server search for 68k).

I am sorry, but I took the RAM wrong.
It is 24MB Ram and via virtual memory, 40 MB.

I would like to go with RAM doubler as it is 24 only.
Can VM and Ram Doubler co-exist ?

Since I have 24MB Physical, will RAM doubler make it behave like 48, or via VM, if I make it 40MB, will Ram Doubler make it work like 80MB ?

8.1 or 7.6.1 with the appearance extension ? If 7.6.1, from where can I download the appearance extension? Any big difference/advantage of 8.1 over 7.6.1. I belive 7.6.1 will make it run faster.

DO you know from where I can download 7.6.1/PB 190cs version of ClarisWork, filemaker4 etc ?

I am not able to find any good website/archive dedicated for 60k's.

Thank you for all the help.

I will keep you all posted.

Apple's Virtual Memory and RAMDoubler absolutely cannot coexist. It's one or the other.

Depending on the version, RAMDoubler can give you anywhere from 24MB to 72MB of logical memory. the 24MB figure is if you turn on "file mapping" in RAMDoubler but don't increase your virtual memory. What this does is turn Virtual Memory on, but only to reduce the amount of RAM your running applications use. This works because with virtual memory on, applications load only the most often needed parts of themselves into RAM when you launch them. The upper figure, 72MB is possible with certain versions of RAMDoubler that allow you to triple the physical memory in the machine. For a PB 190, however, I would recommend keeping your virtual memory to twice the physical memory or less -- i.e. no more than 48MB.

tashidundup: you do know it is not necessary to make a new topic for different things you mentioned in your "7 Questions" thread?

If anyone has anything else useful to add, please put it in the original thread, located here:
