will this CD writer work with my CCII and 7.6?

Hi folks....

I admit it.  I am not a SCSI kind of a guy.  SCSI chains confuse me!  I need to buy a SCSI CD reader/burner for my Color Classic II running 7.6.1 and perhaps soon to be running 8.1.  I found this unit on ebay, but I am not at all sure it will run under a classic OS or even my 68030.  I hope to roll in a 575 logic board some day, and get a full 68040. 

Could some of you look at this and tell me what you think?  Best guess is good enough for me.  I just need an opinion...

Also....

I see many external USB burners.  Is it possible to buy a USB to SCSI adaptor and buy a lower cost newer unit?

It should work with Adaptec Toast 4.1.1 or later.  In fact, if you look on ebay for Yamaha Toast, you can find copies of the original software CD for that particular drive which includes a copy of Toast.

Thank you for that great tip 'olePigeon.  I bought the burner and found the software.  Looks like the disk has pdf's of the manual plus software.

I have a Yamaha external in the same case (but my drive says safeburn on it).

Did you really pay $130 for that?

I did.  I need one bad and that was the least expensive one I could find. Well, I found one for about $20 cheaper but it was a brand I had never hear of before....

I have seen some very inexpensive external CD/DVD burners.  Is it possible to buy a SCSI2 USB adaptor and use USB burners on a classic Mac?

I few years ago I read about somone building a box that would let them run a USB mouse in a classic Mac.  Perhaps something like that would work??

You could use an external SCSI case and a PATA to SATA adapter for an IDE burner (if the software works with it).

Well, I just found a pdf of the cd burner I bought.  It says it will only run under OS 8.5 or newer.    I am running 7.6.1 now, and one day hope to upgrade to 8.1 but that is as new as I can get when it comes to an OS.

Anyone have a CD reader/writer they want to sell me?  I need it to run under 7.6.1 and plug into my Color Classic II.
