Will a MBP 10.4.8 reinstall disc work on an eMac?

So today I acquired the "MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install Disc 1" and "Mac OS X Install Disc 2" for the, of course, MacBook Pro. I just wanted to make sure that these were the proper set for 10.4.8 Tiger and if I could use the discs to install 10.4.8 on an eMac. When I pop in the disc into the CD drive, it mounts and launches the Finder window like a normal OS X Install Disc, so I was wondering if I could use the discs it install Tiger. The last time I tried this with Snow Leopard (discs from a 2.26GHz MBP into a 2.6), the install was fine, but Kernel Panicked every time I tried to boot it.

The Tiger disc you want is the 10.4.6 retail Tiger. That will boot and install on any supported Power Mac, even the quad and the last PowerBooks.

Alright. Thanks guys. At least the discs were cheap. They make a nice collectable, since they came with the original MBP.

Can a later version of the retail disc be used? Or are those for Intel only as well?

The 10.4.8 retail disc is PPC. With 10.4, if you wanted to install it on an Intel Mac, I guess you had to use the discs that came with the machine. That said, if your eMac is fast enough and you have no need for Classic, go ahead and upgrade to Leopard. Did that on one hard drive in my G4 DA. Works nicely. I still have 10.4.11 on the other drives, though, since there are times when I want to run Classic apps without rebooting into 9.2.2.
