What are "Blind Writes"?

I'm formatting an external SCSI drive and this option is enabled by default. Not sure what it is.

In other issues, I can't seem to get Drive Setup to recognize this external drive. I had to use a utility called Anubis to format the drive and it seems to be working OK, but Drive Setup says it's an unsupported drive. Hmm...

If its not an Apple brand drive, then Drive Setup won't want to work with it. You'll need to use a 3rd party utility (such as Anubis).

Blind writes means the Mac won't wait for acknowledgement from the SCSI drive after a write - it'll just wait a certain amount of time, then assume it succeeded. This results in faster write performance, but can theoretically let errors slip by. In practice, blind writes are pretty standard, so just go with it and be happy.
