Websites that work well on these old machines?

Heylo,

I can't connect to the gopher:// system under iCab 2.9.9 on my SE/30, does anybody else here know of websites that are primarily text based for easy viewing on these old machines?

When Google takes 20 seconds to load, I like an easier time on these old machines :)

You can always try loading the mobile version of a site - replacing the www. with m. usually works.

A sparse page like Google takes 20 seconds? Yikes. Are you on dialup, too? I'd think even a SE/30 would do better than that.

Most of my personal pages are fairly sparse. Often the only images are the background, which is used across the entire site, so that's downloaded just once. I do some styling with CSS, but the markup is semantic, so if you don't have CSS or turn it off, they still "work" just fine.

I have a 1.5MB/sec connection here, and whether it's routed through my Intel Mac mini or direct to the combo modem and router, the max I ever get is 66KB/sec.

It's a 10BASE-T card, the theoretical max as I know it is a hair over 1MB/sec.
