USB / FireWire audio interfaces on PCI Performa

Hey all,
I have a performa 5400 which I've been having a lot of fun mucking around with audio on. I'm surprised it can handle quite a few tracks of CD quality audio in Soundedit 16, maybe thanks to the solid state storage upgrade.
I have a Sonnet Allegro USB / FW card installed which works great, and was curious if I should pick up an older usb or FireWire audio class compliant interface to get better quality audio in - can anyone comment it this would work or if the setup in this machine is too janky?
