Unusual 512k

A friend of mine brought me a 512k to have a look at it.

Hanging from the rear bucket was a small cable just above the external floppy connector, my first thought was that the previous owner managed some sort of hack to get a connector a bit more flexible.

removing the rear bucket, the cable was connected to the logic board, but the Logic bard itself was unusual.

Instead of the 512 k board expected, the board is a Macintosh (128) with a memory expansion board on top of it... and another board connected to the processor.

Looking at the chip made it clear, the cable is a SCSI one

The Logic Board was nicely upgraded, the memory can be removed (the 512 will not boot), but not the small board, each pin is soldered to a processor leg.

The boards were made in France, but i have been unable to find any information.

The big mystery, as the whole amount of memory is still 512k, what was the point of removing a 512 board to get a 128 (heavily modified) to suit ?

So either the original board was bad, or the owner needed a SCSI hard drive.

The 512 is using a 800k FD.

Apart from little work in both the Analog Board and Logic Board area, plus cleaning the FD, no problem has been found.
