Trying to remember SCSI CD-ROM drive, Battery powered

When I was a young Mac-head I recall saving paper route money to buy a SCSI CD-ROM drive that had 2 parts. One could be a standard battery powered audio CD player, and a rear section that took MORE AA's (I think 6 more AAs?) and had the SCSI ports on it.

When put together it sort of look looked like a discman that was twice as long.

I recall it was dark grey in color (similiar to PowerBooks of the time), and the CD eject button was purple. It wasn't a major brand peripheral, I've come across something similar by panasonic.

Any one else remember this thing?

I'm sure at the time there were probably several competing portable SCSI CD-ROMs.  The Panasonic is the only one I'm really familiar with, though.  At least, it appears to be the most marketed.

I know exactly which one you mean but I can’t recall the name. It starts with para I believe. They also made sound accessoires for the Mac.

Me too, I've filched pics from a couple of eBay auctions I've been able to resist. Looked earlier today but haven't found them yet. IIRC it may have been a fast drive with a SCSI2 interface as well as being a DiscMan kinda deal?

I might be remembering the Panasonic though.

It’s not far from the Panasonic, but that wasn’t it....the rear portion was almost as long as the discman front half. SCSI2 for sure though.

Its funny how im so used to everything being a quick search away. If I had a mac mall catalog from the time....

I’m also confident it was not a major brand (like Sony or Panasonic), because I remember it being “cheap” and I rationalized to myself how it would be discman AND a cdrom....but it never did either very well.
