Toshiba SD-M1401 in a Beige G3?

I have a Beige G3 that I somehow got the idea to install a DVD ROM drive in. I'm not sure if it's one of the ones with the IDE bus bug or not, so I went ahead and got a SCSI DVD-ROM drive on eBay, specifically this one.

I'm having difficulty getting this to work under 9.2.2. I've heard that I need to use FWB CD-Rom Toolkit to make the drive usable. Is there a preferred version for this software? Is there another program more specific to this drive? I've also heard that even so, the drive won't be bootable on the system. Is there a workaround for this?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You could try other CD-ROM extensions like CD sunrise

The extensions will allow you to read, probably burn media on the desktop, but you will probably struggle booting from the drive. A Pioneer DVD drive was usually the go to brand in the day.

There's a slot loading one on eBay, do you think I'd have better luck with this?
