TiBook Airport Won't work Under Mac OS 9

Hi,

I brought out the TiBook again, and I was reminded of a weird problem with the Airport card.

It won't work under Mac OS 9. I updated the software, reinstalled the original software, cleared out the preferences files, and it still won't work.

It's being recognized, but it won't detect any networks, and after trying to run either the Airport program (the thing you use to select networks) or the control strip thing, it will delay longer than usual, then produce in the menu either a "No Networks Available" message, or some sort of garbage. Mac OS subsequently freezes intermittently every 2-5 seconds until I restart.

To add to the weirdness, it works under Mac OS X perfectly (I'm currently using it under Leopard).

Why is this so?

What version of OS 9?
9.2.2.
It runs at 1 GHz, but that shouldn't matter; It's supposedly compatible.

Could a bad connection somewhere cause this? It's working fine under Mac OS X, so maybe not.

p.s. This machine was upgraded from 867 MHz when the logic board died, the previous owner told me. Consequently, the original restore disks no longer work. could the same be true of the Airport card under OS 9?

This sounds a lot like an Airport card that I have. It will see networks, but won't connect (at least not after the first couple of minutes post-boot). The only difference is that OS 9 and OS X makes no difference.

I just assumed the card was bad.

I know it's nowhere near a fix, but figured I'd mention I keep one of these around when I take my TiBook with me.

150mbps USB powered mini router (TL-WR702N). Default firmware supports client mode but I have DD WRT on mine :)
