The Kanga noise...

Hi,

I have a small noise problem with a Powerbook G3 Kanga.

Instead of making long explanations, made a small vid of the thing :

All the caps have been changed so problem is not from these... When I plug headphones in the sound output , I can hear the same noise. So I'm afraid the problem is from the sound chip :-/ But anyway posting this here if anyone has an idea of things to try to fix that...

On the pismo and wallstreets the sound connections can break and lose sound output.  I would look for maybe a short, if not a sound chip transplant on a kanga will need a parts machine 3400 I would guess.

I agree with Drone, you could either pull the board and stick it in the oven (~350* @ 5-10 Minutes) hopefully that would reflow everything. Or the more practical way to find a replacement online either as a standalone, or a parts machine.

Or, the PRAM battery leaked as they commonly do in the 3400/Kanga and had caused some damage.

Yeah… I’m a bit scared to put a board in the oven. And not sure it would work on these kind of old thing with still plastic pieces like the HD connector and other. All that would melt.
Don’t think it’s the PRAM battery problem, the area is clean, and it’s one of the first thing I’ve removed when I got it.
 
Don’t even know where on the board is that sound chip located. So yes, My best bet would be to find another board. But it’s rare…
