System 6 Jpeg Viewer?

Hi All, I am struggling to find a JPEG viewer that will run under System 6 on my Mac IIsi (see my earlier post in Conquests for all the details on that machine). Even Photoshop 2.01 doesn't support JPEGs! I am GUESSING that there is an early version of JPEGView that would run under System 6, but I have searched the web in vain trying to find it. I have also searched in vain for an earlier version of my other "go to" image program, BME, that would run under System 6.

If anyone has any pointers as to ANY program that would support and render JPEG files under System 6, I would love to hear them! Thanks!

If I remember correctly, there is a fellow who managed to get his Mac 512ke running as a webserver and he had the earliest version of a program that supported JPEGs. I've used the program but the name escapes me. I'll male an entry when it comes to mind.

Probably the earliest possible version of JPEGView, as you note, or possibly GraphicConverter? Another option would be to see when DeBabelizer shipped. All of these could be System 7-only, of course. JPEGView predates QuickTime but am not sure about System 7. Anything from around the Fall of 1990 or earlier would b what you’re looking for... try the BMUG PD-ROM Volume 1 to see if there’s a viewer there.

Great tip guys, thanks! I am downloading it as I type this. I have also managed to unearth v3.1 of JPEGView, and will test it out to see if it will work with System 6. Finally, I located the author, Aaron Giles, and have contacted him via email - what could be better than going directly to the source! Thanks again.

A longshot here, but didn't some versions of Color It support JPEG? I may be confusing it with GIF; I haven't used the program in years (it was a freebie with Mac Secrets). I can't say for sure, but it's one to check if you have a copy of it handy. (I'll have to dig the disks out sometime and check).
