Stuffit Help Needed!

OK, 68k gang, I have hit a roadblock and need help.

I am trying to get the 6.3 Orinoco drivers installed on a PB 1400 running OS 8.

I have managed to convert the .hqx file to a .sit file on my desktop, but cannot for the life of me get that to open with the version of Stuffit that is included in OS 8. That appears to be version 4.5

What free old version of Stuffit can be downloaded that is compatible with OS 8 and will open the Orinoco file?

A later Stuffit version requires OS 8.6, which I have but don't want to put on this 1400 because it is only a 117mhz unit.

Update: It seems to think the .sit file is a DOCUMENT. This is so strange... I have Stuffit 7.03 but it requires OS 8.6 or higher. I'm trying to avoid that to keep this Mac as nimble as possible...

Did you use StuffIt to convert the .sit.hqx file to a .sit file? If not, maybe that would be worth a try? OR If you used something other than BinHex to unbinhex the file, try using binhex instead. It is possible that the file may just be corrupt or broken.

Nathan, that is what Stuffit seemed to do...converted from .sit.hqx to .sit, but then it won't do anything further with the .sit. I can see if BinHex does anything different.

Paralel, I tried to get the downloaded SE 5.5 to open on my 1400, but again, OS 8 seems to think that is a text file (seems to read the .dsk extension as a text file)...????

OK, I give up. How do I use BinHex as an alternate way to open? I've poked around and I don't understand if it's native to the OS or is a separate utility...?
