I have a few question

1. I have this clip thing from a centris 650 what does that do?

2.What are the pin out's for the power brick for the centris?

3.I have this very very Long cable that has a stander Ethernet plug on one end and on the other end its a phone line cable. WHAT DOES THIS DO?

4.how do i see if a zip drive is working or not?

5. How do I make a zip disk have system software (7.6) and be able to boot as well?

6.Where is a good place to get older mac porgrams *Cough * with out paying *Cough* ( I know Macintosh garden) any others?

1. That sounds like a clock chipping accelerator, it clips onto the logic board and makes the CPU run at a higher clock speed, speeding up the system. They were very common back in the day, but I personally wouldn't use one on a Mac today, as the machines are getting old, and are not as capable of taking abuse like that as they used to.

4. Connect it to a computer (make sure you use the right interface! Make sure you are NOT connecting a parallel Zip drive to a Mac, or a SCSI Zip drive to a PC without a SCSI card fitted!), install the Iomega drivers or run the Iomega Guest application and try inserting a known-good disk.

5. Just install it, exactly the same as making a bootable hard drive.

6. Nobody's going to tell you here on the forums, since thats against forum rules, but there are places out there....Google is your friend.

ok Well thanks a bunch, I do know my centris does need a repair, The power brick ( the thing you plug in power) that has died, after all of the years it was on, I am going to plug in a pc power brick, ( and make the connections for it)

The zip drives I have are scsi, I know on my g4 power mac the zip drive works fine, but one will not show in the system, it is scis, I am very new to scsi as I am only 15 years old, and apple is my life. ( Sad right) 8-o

That clip thing went flying and I have lost it, also what is that drive on the frount of the computer, it looks like a cd rom drive, but there is like a whole the sise of 3 zip disks, and i only have 2

Also I am going to install 8.1 on one of my zip disks but I need it to boot a g4 \ a power pc mac, so thats going to be a big problem there, also what should i put on the zip disk as a ems disk?

6, Most of the older mac sites are legal. I live in montreal, and that legal ( canada eh ) XD I am not a stereo type

so yea but i am calling it a night and saying good night, and i hope i get rid of this fucking cold

 
The drive on the front would be a caddy loading CD-ROM drive, most likely an AppleCD 300, which is a 2x CD-ROM drive. You can either find a caddy for it and use it, or you can swap it out for a tray loading CD-ROM drive. However, if you swap the drive out, you'll need to either remove the caddy loading bezel and either have no bezel, or replace it with a tray loading bezel (which can be sourced from a Power Mac 7100).

 
umm ok would a bessle from a 7200 work ? as I have that mac but its cd drive buttion is missing, but i do have a scsi cd rom drive i could use? how is a scsi cd rom fast? this is a cd burner at like 12 x

 
Nah, it needs to be either from a IIvx, IIvi, Quadra/Centris 650 or Power Mac 7100. The 7200 has a redesigned case, with a more curved front, and the bezel from it won't fit.

 
yea ok thanks but i think my scsi drive will work from most of it, when i get some $$$ I am going to buy the caddy for it, but that is stupid tho,

Not enough information. If it's a plastic clip about 3"x1" (very roughly) it could be the thing that holds the optional cache card in place.

First, replace the motherboard battery. Some Macs will refuse to boot without one, although I don't know if the 650 is one of them.

 
well there is no battrie and it did boot befor, I have a 7200 that wont boot with a dead one, i am going to rig, a pc bower box to the weird plug so i can use the mac and install 7

aswell it does not spark when you plug in the power, as some times if you do it it does,

also my imacs have booting problems with the battrie in

 
I've had my Centris 650 for many years, and I don't recall there ever being a "power brick" for it. Simple power cord is all I've ever used.

 
The Centris 650 **DOES** have a battery on the motherboard. You just need to look more closely. Some older Macs will turn on if this battery is dead, some will NOT. So it's a good idea to replace this battery. It usually has a little black cover on it.

Try borrowing a battery from one of your other Macs and put it in the Centris 650.

You will probably have trouble connecting an ATX supply to the 650's motherboard. The signals and voltages may not be compatible and the supply won't fit properly in the case. I recommend that you do this ONLY as a LAST resort.

 
One more note: your Centris 650 will not always cause a small spark when you plug it in even if it's working. This depends on several things like humidity, how long it's been unplugged, etc.

The Centris 650 DOES have a battery:

This was probably the reason it would not turn on.

also when it stopped working it was on then it went off,I am working on rigging an atx power Brick on it

If you've noticed, your ATX supply will not turn on if you just plug it in to the wall. Try it if you haven't yet.

ATX supplies require the PS-ON wire to be connected to a black wire (ground) in order to turn on for a project like this. This wire is usually green. See this site:

Does anyone have a pinout of the 650 power supply so we can tell this guy which color wires to connect where? I believe it's compatible with 7100, IIci, IIcx, IIvi, IIvx.
