Slightly strange Mac SE Screen issue

uniserver

68LC040
towards the top of the crt the screen appears condensed,

towards the bottom of the crt the screen appears stretched looking.

could this be from some issue with the deflection?

I tried playing with the pots on the AB, nothing seemed to help.

any suggestions?

Could it have anything to do with the square magnets around the yoke being misaligned? It sure seems strange... as far as i know the b&w periscopes didn't have a degaussing coil of some kind right?

this is otherwise known as vertical linearity. it is out of adjustment. if there is no adjustment It is a bad capacitor.

you need to have a look at the vertical output stage anytime the linearity if off it is because of the ramp output from the IC is nonlinear

BTW, the capacitor doesnt have to be electrolytic. it can be a bad/leaky/shorted ceramic or mylar cap.

Check: TDA1170 vertical deflection output IC, There is a resistor/capacitor filter between Pins 1 and 12. This sets the vertical linearity, If the two 0.1UF capacitors are bad/leaky, or the two 68K resistors have drifted or opened, or the 470K. You will have this issue.

the 68K resistor between 1 and 12 sets the linearity, However its in series with an 0.1UF cap, and i would suspect this first, as if it goes bad the 68K resistor wont have much effect as the overall impedance changes.

lol no last night i did the water pump and timing belt on the saturn vue…

my hands are still black.

good news is it runs good, drove it to work today.

breaks are making noises the rotors had rusted up its been sitting since the summer and i just last night found the time to get it done.

One tip, DOHC V6 engines,,, Timing/belt, the job is annoying enough as it is.. just break down and buy the Timing tool kit from amazon for 100.

There are guides on the net that show you how to time it with zip straps and jamming some wood between the cover and crank sprocket so the crank doesn't spin on you. Its better just to buy the tool….!!!!!

I talked to your buddy from youtube, he said that he received it and all is good. so that is good.

I will get to this AB saturday more then likely!

Tonight is Classic II fun.

:-)

yeah I don't have to worry about that because I won't own a Saturn anyway. I've had my experiences with those cars, especially their interference four cylinders. No thank you.

My Linux PC's monitor shows a similar issue, but in the horizontal direction, when running in one particular screen mode. I can't remember what mode it was, but it's only that one (and regardless of what operating system or PC is driving it).

Other times it's fine.

The Adjustable Ferrite Core/Holder got de soldered and used in tempest's Classic :-)

his was destroyed.

The Deflection connector got desoldered and used on a 128k AB.

C1 got desoldered and used in brooklyn's se/30 a/b that he sent me.

I ended up using in there. instead. So its working fine.

It turned out to be a mighty fine parts AB lol.

Granted I did not get the original issue figured out, I feel it turned out ok.

oh and the saturn vue still runs :)

would you believe the timing belt went on the other saturn vue!!!

We have 2 saturn vue's a 2002 and a 2003… been driving the 2002 all spring and summer and most of fall.

3 freaking days after i fixed the 2003... the 2003 was down all spring and summer with a leaky water pump, waiting for me to tear it down and do the whole deal, timing belt/water pump deal.

just 3 days after the 2003 was all fixed up and running… the 02's timing belt went on me a mile from the house…

lol oh well.. now the 02 is in the back yard waiting for me to tear into it…. yeah and there is a foot of snow on it :)

I had to push it home.. it about killed me. the AWD shaft carrier bearings are not the best and was causing a little drag :) lol

Speaking of cars, I am car shopping again. the spline on my axle decided to shear inside the spindle, Plus the struts being shot and serious rocker rust, And the fact that its a 96 stratus... Yea, shes done.
