Should the 1GHZ sonnet Encore be grounded?

I recently came across some more of (and bought one) the 1 GHZ G4 Sonnet Encores on eBay, and I noticed that it doesn't use the stock heat sink, and it doesn't seem to have a provision for the grounding cable in my Beige G3. Am I ok to just remove it, or is there something I'm missing? Other that this, I've checked the voltage regulator and its compatible. I think I'm ok ro run it as it is probably grounded through the power source, but I thought I would still check just in case.

As installed: you can see the ground on the stock heatsink still attached.

I decided to gamble and boot it. Apple SYstem profiler says that its is a processor of unknown type, and it is running at 67 MHZ. Is there something wrong with it?

While some units could do 83Mhz the default was 66Mhz FSB bus for the CPU on beige G3 machines, which is what you have. You will need software to get the CPU running to 1Ghz, go check Sonnets site. No, you do not need the ground strap.

Thanks, I was able to locate the software and get it up and running properly. It makes the machine quite a bit faster.

Hi, I recently picked up this Sonnet upgrade for my Beige G3.

Mine did not come with the power cable adapter shown above, are these a standard cable I can buy somewhere?

Ye another cool SonnetToy to add to the never ending search. Nice, did you install the Metronome utility to get the lowdown on what's going on in your "G3." I'd use it regularly keep an eye on the temperature for a bit.
