Security software

Hi everyone,

Recently I've had questions about connecting my iMac G3 to the Internet. Well, I'm proud to say that I am writing this post from that iMac! All I did was plug the Ethernet cable into my PC's router, while it was connected to the PC. So I'll just buy a super-long Ethernet cable to connect it from upstairs.

But that is not my question. Where can I go to find Internet security software? I constantly get messages that the connection isn't secure, a third party could read it, etc. Is there software I can download or buy to remedy this?

Thanks,

Every time I go to a new website, I get a dialog that simply tells me that it 'was unable to find a secure connection' and that 'it can be read by a third party' and stuff like that. I've even had to restart the computer occasionally based on system errors.

Every time? That sounds very weird.

Internet browsing isn't secure. That's just how it is. There is such a thing as a secure connection, but 95% of sites don't use it (and don't need to, really). What browser are you using? Are these messages coming form overzealous anti-virus software or similar? That would be my first guess, really.

Some browsers do that, like whenever you search for something "your search could be read" and stuff

Ignore it…

Or perhaps from the browser? Old Netscape versions had a series of options (in Preferences) to warn a user about secure or insecure connections to or from pages. If your browser has something similar, and if you have not disabled them, that may be the cause of the warnings.

Yeah, I'll ignore it.

Oh, and by the way, does anyone know how to 'reinstall Internet Explorer by copying the original?' Explorer can't open the Preferences menu, for instance. It told me to reinstall Internet Explorer by copying the original.

What does this mean?

Thanks,
