SE/30 ram / hard drive... Giving sad Mac

Well, I've not played with these all in ones in years. But basicly, I have a SE/30 that had a dead hard drive. So I installed a 1gb with a fresh 7.6.1 install and installed 128mb ram FPM 5v 30 pin 70ns (8 16mb Simms). Orinslly it booted to flashing question. No it goes to smiley Mac, then before the startup status bar appears it gives a Sad Mac with the following code:

0000000F

0000000C

I realize I completely forgot all about the old Mac stuff so I know there is something I'm doing wrong. I assume I need 7.5.5 and that mode32 thing (can't get my USB floppy to work on my iMac so having issue with that)... And of course there maybe something I need to do to have so much ram.

Any advice?

7.5.5 is the best you can do , in order to run 7.6 you need a clean 32 bit rom.

dougg3 could sell you one for 30 bucks, I hear you could go all the way to 8.1 with a hack and that clean rom.

or you could get a IIsi rom

I've not tried that yet because it takes so dang log to install via floppies. I messages Dougg3 and ill try to order some new roms. Is there any jumpers on the board I didn't see to allow it to run 128mb. I use to be a wiz at these things... Like 10 years ago. It's amazing how much you forget

nope you just pop the new one in.

depending on how you have it configured, Mac os 7.0 can be installed in ROM as well, you could boot directly from rom, as well

as a nice feature... and you can change the boot graphics, and you can change the start up tone

its bonus after bonus

Well I'm sold on that rom tool!!! That would be awesome have a early OS on the rom and have 7.6.1 on the hd. I PMd him. Can't wait!

Also, using more than 8 MB of RAM will not be recognised unless 32-bit addressing is used (i.e. MODE32), but it won't cause a problem-it will simply be ignored.

Interesting! I wonder what is going on with my SE/30 as it shows 20Mb of RAM but also says it's not 32bit capable. I have 6.0.8 installed, added 20Mb of memory and didn't do anything else and hey presto it showed up no probs.

it will show the ram you have, but the os will only use 8mb of it

According to Apple's KB article, you had a "nothing" error. I'd try another RAM stick and see what it does. Old Macs are very picky when it comes to RAM.
