Scored a IIfx lot with extras

I purchased this lot just because it was a working IIfx which I've wanted for a while but they don't float by often enough.  Turns out this included a second dead IIfx from a PRAM battery explosion.

I was not prepared for how large the also-included SuperMac 19" Trinitron was, but I should have known better with how well it fits above the massive Mac II series

I'll attempt to repair that one as well as generally re-cap both boards.  Both machines included a SuperMac video card (different models) and a third SuperMac video card was included New-in-Box

It came with 4 SCSI devices; cartridge-loading CD w cartriges, SyQuest 44MB with bag of cartridges, HDD, and unknown-yet spec DIGITAL Storage Expansion box

And a bag full of cables, a second AEKII, and 4 more classic rectangular mice

...Also the guy threw in the DIGITAL (DEC) lappies in with the lot when I arrived.  The working IIfx also has DEC software on it.  So this guy must have worked for them

Congratulations. It really is great to get your hands on a haul like this.

Wow. The only IIfx I got was bundled with a II on eBay near 10 years ago. Batteries absolutely nuked the board so I have only a IIfx without a motherboard.

Even got a bunch of 64-pin RAM for it still. They're scarce even in the US, just imagine how hard it is to get one here in Blighty!

Not sure if I want to just sell what I have left of it or keep it in the hope something might happen.

Sweet. That lot was a steal.

It had been sitting on ebay for quite a while if it came from the auction I think it of...

How bad is the damage on the second IIfx?

I have been looking for a fixable IIfx board now for some time already.

Nice monitor stand. I have a Supermac 19 or 20" fixed frequency monitor (uses BNC) and it is heavy as hell.
Yeah I can't use my back when moving it, this one has 3 BNC as well ( R, G, B )

Vielleicht! But it only just appeared in my saved searches a couple weeks ago, so unless the seller updated the listing I can't say.... Außerhalb von MUC?

The board doesn't appear all that bad from the inside the case though there are some loose floating tants with corroded legs which doesn't bode well for any nearby ICs.  I haven't broken them down yet, and there are a few SMD electrolytics I want to replace.  It's nowhere near as bad as the huge brown rust holes you typically see in an SE/30

Here is the damage.  It's bad but not terrible - I'm going to give it a shot.  Luckily I have the other IIf to reference for parts and surface traces

The Apple custom ASIC to the left of the Zilog serial controller might be a goner, but fingers crossed you can save this system!

Probably too late, only been able to save one Logic board (SE) with this amount of acid, too many traces probably gone already.

Just did an acid soak and preliminary scrub with soapy water.  The ASIC looks fine.  The Zilog is missing 1 pin which I think I can fix and the 2 onboard RAM are shot.  Also lots of missing traces.  Those I can handle, but I worry for the vias that go to inside layers.  I'll have to get the schematic

The 8530 and the Static RAM chips are available (or were).   As long as you can save the IOP and are able to repair the traces, if should be fixable.  Nice project.

I'm as jealous of your IIfx as I am of the monitor stand.  I've been looking for that stand (plus the IIci sized one) for many, many years.  Are there any markings on the stand?  I thought it might be Kensington.

Yes, the stand has a sticker on it by Raduis - the other big player in Mac graphics.   But nothing more identifying than that like a model

@EkriirkE Oooooh, that helps a LOT!  I never even knew who made it before today.  Thanks!  I always assumed it was Kensington because they made those kind of things back in the day.  Although I'd imagine the stickers get lost all the time.  I'm wondering if it was originally sold by Supermac.  It would make sense to have both a Supermac monitor and a Radius branded stand because Radius eventually bought Supermac.

So now I know they existed in the wild outside of advertisements.  I've still never seen the IIci/IIcx/Quadra version in the wild, only in print.

Thanks for the pictures.  It goes without saying that if you decide to get rid of the stand, I'd be more than happy to trade/buy it.  I'm in the South Bay. :)

@olePigeon Glad I could help!  Unfortunately this lot is still in Germany :)   But the stand seems easy enough to make if you have access to any decent workshop.  Mabe ask someone over at the TechShop if they still exist?

I like that monitor stands too. Will probablly recreate one for IIcx and II.

Here is the Radius ad from Macworld magazine
