Scanners? TWAIN?

There's a Fujitsi Scanpartner 300C for sale near me, which is SCSI-scanner with a feeder. I've been looking for such a thing to pair with my Power Mac.

The manual I've found makes no mention of the software, but there's an illustration of it connected to a 'Mac', so I'm guessing it's compatible.

What I'm not sure is how drivers relate to this TWAIN stuff - are scanner drivers generic, or do I need to track down some vendor specific drivers if the seller doesn't have them?

You need specific drivers for your scanner, especially if you want the optional stuff (feeder) to work.

Some company did make some software with drivers for a range of scanners, forget the name but I have used it on the mac.

VueScan is a terrific piece of software that supports hundreds of scanners. It appears to support the Scanpartner 300C:

You could try Googling for Fujitsu's own drivers, and I suppose it's possible if you have Photoshop that its built-in TWAIN driver might work. But as a fallback, VueScan will definitely work - and it's better than many manufacturers' own drivers.

Yes! I remember using it with my HP 5300C scanner and it could even be used with a document feeder (which I believe it was an optional feature for the 5300C...).

Unfortunately, me and VueScan didn't get along: it was always crashing, had a crumpled interface, but did the job - until I got a brand new Brother DCP-540CN which talks perfectly with my two main Macs, and every single peecee around the house (Linux included! :D ), has a document feeder (which is a really nice feature, I scan a lot of course notes onto PDF that way) and also network capabilities! :)

Sorry for the off-topic, but I really like that little sucker :D .
