. . . yep, I just borked the Scanmaker 4 that I snagged today on powerup! Like an idiot, I just plugged it in and powered it up like I did the first one I bought in its original packaging! No problem THAT time, but THIS one let out a loud "CRACK" and the insides filled up w/the dreaded magic smoke . . . I should have known better . . . [:I] ]'>
I ASSuMEd, that this one would act the same as the first, but I never looked at the docs & CD in the Zip-Loc Bag that was lovingly taped to the scanner's lid by the thoughtful person who donated it to the thrift shop. I should have realized that such a person would have locked down the carriage of the scanner . . . [:I] ]'>
Whatever, what's done is done! Now I get to crack that Big@$$ sucker open and see what's inside! [}

If MicroTek was HALF as thoughtful as the previous owner, I'll find a fuse or a fusible link inside to idiot-proof this, very expensive for its day, great Scanner! I snagged it mostly for the CD on top and the Plexi (?) Transparency Drawer Platen that were missing from the first one I got from the same thrift. That first one has some really nasty SCSI VOODOO goin' down. I've tried everything but an active termination device to get the "Chain not terminated" banner in SCSI-Probe to stop flashin', including the IIfx Super-Terminator.
Wish me luck!
On second thought . . . don't wake Murphy up, maybe he's snoozin' about now! :
