Sawtooth!

Today I got a Sawtooth G4 for $5. While it is missing a hard disk and memory, I have those floating around. It came with a Rage128 AGP card and an ATTO SCSI card so it wasn't too bad.

It had ink spilled on the front of the case (I knew it before I bought it). I've cleaned up the drive doors and handles, but need to take it apart completely in order to get all of the ink off of it. Are there any guides on how to get it apart?

Nice score! Sawtooth plastics are pretty easy to get off the chassis, essentially you just look for where there are plastic latches and pop them off. I don't know if any guides, but if you spend enough time pulling on panels and looking for clips you should have no trouble.

Finally managed to get it apart and cleaned out. There are a few places left that I can't get to, but they are fairly minor. The ink came off quite easily using warm water. Too bad it doesn't work the same for my skin... :)

The price is certainly right, and you'd probably upgrade the drive and RAM anyhow. The Sawtooth is a workhorse, a great OS9 Mac, and a solid OS X performer. Congrats!

So far it has 512MB, 20GB IDE hard disk and Tiger. I tried booting from an OS 9 CD with no success.

While I do have SCSI drives, they are either smaller than 10GB or are flaky.

have fun with that sawtooth, mine is still chugging along well ;D
