I have a real Macintosh SE FDHD that boots and runs just fine. I have successfully used CopyRoms to dump the 256 KB ROM file to a floppy disk and have copied this back to the host Mac that's going to run mini vMac.
The standard version of Mini vMac was compiled for a Macintosh Plus, and refuses to accept the SEFDHD ROM. I understand this much.
At gryphel.com, the page about options includes a note that says to use a Mac SE ROM, the app needs to be "compiled" with the option
Which brings me to my questions:
- Is it absolutely necessary to fully recompile mini vMac for each platform variant?
- Is there no build of mini vMac that allows someone to supply runtime switches for different models?
- Is it still possible or feasible to compile mini vMac on a PowerPC Mac? (I have an iMac G4 dual booting 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5.9 (Sorbet Leopard) that sits nearest my vintage Macs, and I would slightly prefer this. Or at least I'd like to have some options to compile on PPC, x86, and ARM).
edit: I literally just found the Variations page, as well as the subscriber code. Sheesh. This whole site could use an organization overhaul. I mean, I love that it's a barebones page and I could probably load it on the SE ... but yikes.
edit2: YAY IT BOOTED ON THE FIRST TRY AND I HAVE A BLINKING FLOPPY DISK

-m SEFDHD. On the 68K Macs Index page, it says that the ROM file needs to be named SEFDHD.ROM. I'm also inferring that this will *only* work with the above-mentioned compile-time option, since doing that with the "standard" version of mini vMac returns a message about the ROM being corrupted. I'm 100% certain this is a false error and that the ROM is not corrupted; otherwise, my SE FDHD would have bigger problems! :-DWhich brings me to my questions:
