Restoration CD for market software

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of Volume 6 from Restoration CD for Market Software Series mentioned on page 35 of the 1996 Service Guide:

I've found Volumes 1 to 3, but that's it. If the complete series is around some where I think they would be a handy addition to the library of reference material that I've been building up.

Can you share the link you found for Volume 1? I have been trying to find that one for years!

...unless that's a reference to the Legacy Restore CD which is sometimes labeled as if it were the first of 3 discs in that set. But there were, in fact, 3 discs, and disc 1 had the consumer drive images on it, while disc 2 (readily available) had the edu versions.

To bring back an old thread...
Is the discussion specifically about the Market Software Series 3-CD set, or the Service Series 6-CD set?
For the Service Series set, we've got volumes 1-5 plus 6.0 and 6.1 available:
- I've tried to track the contents of both series on here.
AFAIK, nobody has ever made any the MSS volume 1 available online. I've been looking for this for years, because it contains the contents and restoration scripts for the early Performas, which don't appear to be available anywhere else. Presumably that was so that a store could factory restore a demonstration model prior to sale. Most of the recovered images we've got for Performas are due to an enterprising user actually running Apple Backup as the first step in unboxing their Performa AND later having the wisdom to image those floppies. But MSS Vol 1 actually has all the software and build scripts to create a "factory clean" HD for each SKU.

My original posting was about a 10 volume set:

Restoration CD for Market Software:
Restoring software can be particularly difficult when third-party applications are bundled with the customers unit at the time of sale. Specifically designed for this situation, the Apple Restoration CDs for Market Software come complete with the correct version of system software and all the original applications that were bundled for specific markets or promotions. Each Restoration CD in this series is sold separately. As of February 1996, the following volumes are offered:

Volume 1, Restoration CD for Market Software (MAR '94) Consumer/Performa (600-1432)
Volume 2, Restoration CD for Market Software (FEB '94) Education Software for AELC, Back to School & Educator (600-1397)
Volume 3, Restoration CD for Market Software (JUN '94) Education & Consumer Software. (600-1585)
Volume 4, Restoration CD for Market Software (SEP '94) Systems Remarketing & Performa 500, 630 Series, and 637 (600-1752)
Volume 5, Restoration CD for Market Software (JAN '95) Fall 1994 software for Performa 6100 Series & AELC. (600-1977)
Volume 6, Restoration CD for Market Software (MAY '95) Spring 1995 Performa Software for 5200LC/75 & 640CD DOS (600-2616)
Volume 7, Restoration CD for Market Software (JAN '96) Fall 1995 Performa Software for 6205CD, 6214CD & 6216CD (600-3647)
Volume 8, Restoration CD for Market Software (JAN '96) Fall 1995 Performa Software for 5215CD, 6200, 6218 & 6220CD (600-3648)
Volume 9, Restoration CD for Market Software (JAN '96) Fall 1995 Performa Software for 5200CD & 6230CD. (600-3649)
Volume 10, Restoration CD for Market Software (JAN '96) Summer 1995 Education Software for LC580 & LC5200/75 (600-365)

I was looking for Volume 6 because I have a 630 DOS system and I was curious what the CD had on it.

Sounds like you are saying you can't find Volume 6 anywhere but are any of the others available somewhere?
I have only have 2 and 3. When I originally posted, I thought I had more, but they are from the System Software Recovery series that seems to be a different series.

I think these restore images are pretty cool. What did your retro Mac actually come from the factory with vs. the Legacy Restore CD that can just give you the base OS for your retro Mac?

While perhaps less interesting then the "Restoration CD for Market Software Series", which I think is all about the various Performa bundles, the "Restoration CD for System Software Series" disk images are up on Macintosh Garden (I posted a few, just noticed @MrFahrenheit filled in the gaps somewhat recently!):

Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 1 (September 1994)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 2 (November 1995)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 3 (May 1995)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 4 (August 1996)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 5 (March 1997)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 6 (March 1997)
Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 6, v1.1 (June 1997)

I believe Macs shipped at the tail end of this, like Performa 6400s, came with restore CDs that accomplish the same thing but if for instance you want to know what the hard drive for your PowerBook 150 came preinstalled with these are pretty neat.

Attaching a PDF from Disk 6 which has an inventory of all the the images on it and the previous disks in this series.

I'm also very interested in someday being able to play with Volume 1 of the Market Software CDs. Sure hope it's out there somewhere! One thing I should add is when you go to actually do a restore, the installer provides a bunch of info about how the image was created and its history. For example, 694-0258 on Volume 3 mentions that they started from 694-0275 and then made various tweaks. 694-0275 is one of the bundles on Volume 1 that goes with a bunch of early Performa models.

This lines up with what I remember as a kid. My family had a Performa 550, the older style with the caddy-loading CD drive and sticker underneath. I distinctly remember it having Monopoly. Then somehow the operating system got screwed up, and unfortunately we didn't have a backup and it didn't come with a restore CD.

In the meantime, my aunt had also bought a Performa 550, but it was a newer model with a tray-loading CD drive, and hers came with a restore CD. So we restored it using that CD, but then it didn't have Monopoly anymore. I thought I was going crazy, but now it all makes sense. The restore CD included with the later versions wasn't an exact match to the bundled software on the earlier ones.

Model-specific restore/install CD images seem to be a bit thin on the ground. I got the Q630/LC580 one from IA, and there's one for the first-gen Power Macs, but I know there are a lot of others that don't seem to be imaged yet.

I think I have the components to restore the 630CD original image. The tricky ones are the first generation -- Performa 200 (7.0.1P) up to the ones that came with System 7.1P3 -- which is an OS version still MIA, as well as the specific versions of a number of the software titles bundled with it. These didn't come with restore media, just Apple Backup and a page in the welcome book instructing the user that the first step should be to use Apple Backup to back up their computer to floppy disks before first use. The missing Market Software CD is the only place outside of Apple's original imaging stations that seems to have a build method for those drive images.

a shame that Disk 1 was imaged incorrectly. someone used toast (yuck) and now it's not properly bootable without some muckery.

perhaps you have an original copy @Fizzbinn? I believe you mentioned that somewhere.

Unfortunately I do not :-(
(I have originals of discs 3, 5, and 6 v1.1)

@MrFahrenheit would you happen to have an original of "Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 1 (September 1994)"?

GREAT NEWS!!!

Much thanks to @MrFahrenheit @dougg3 @Fizzbinn @adespoton on guiding me on the best method to upload the Complete CD Market Series Restore, Set of 16 Volumes, to MG.

Yes, there are 16 discs, not just 10 as the printed guides state. These guides were designed for on-site reference and they were rarely updated once printed. Dealers had the opportunity to buy theses restore discs individually. I'm sure not all dealers saw all of these models,so IDK how many really ordered them or even needed them.

These were created using ImgBurg on Windows to .iso, so they are complete and do boot (several above members confirmed this.)

@dougg3 confirmed the missing System 7.1P3 is on Volume 1

Descriptions have been included for each Volume (Disc), however I'm sure there are discrepancies.
Please message me if you need me to update any of this info to match what is actually on each Volume.

Enjoy!

@RepairManiac Amazing! Thanks a bunch for the effort.
These will be fun to mess with... hell yeah.

Now all we need is a properly imaged collection of the regular System Software Restoration discs.
