Replacing the CCFL in the Pismo?

I have a "dark corner" that has developed on one of my Pismo laptops.

Is this a result of a bad LCD or the CCFL? I seem to recall it was the  CCFL from  prior discusion.

How hard is it to swap out the CCFL? Or maybe even rebuild/rework the display driver board?

You might consider replacing the CCFL with a led solution and remove the backlights inverter altogether.

The light is along the bottom if I recall. If its one side, then it might be the inverter only outputting one side. But it could also be a bad tube. Typically the display will also start shifting to pink or be very slow to warm up when the lamp is going bad.

Not sure how an LED solution would work and the diffuser plate is not designed for it. But it might.

You could probably pickup a "dead" Pismo (which in 80% of cases is bad PRAM settings, fixed by disconnecting the PRAM battery) more cheaply for the LCD than looking out for a CCFL/LED replacement, which isn't an easy task.

How would this work? Just run a ribbon cable through it and avoid the inverter and tap directly into the LED? Would I lose the ability to "dim" the display?

I'm not entirely sure how it would work, I'm just saying it might be a good idea, and yes, you would bypass the ccfl driver.
