replacement PSU for Performa 630

I'd think that any of the RoadApple PPC's PSUs ought to work fine in a 630.

If you want to run it in a car, get the aforementioned RoadApple PSU, an inverter of sufficient wattage and fusible links for the hookup.

For pinouts of the entire 630 - 6500 Power Connector/MoBoMedusaMess, there's a famous diagram in the CC hackin' community, but I can't remember the name.

That one will blow up in seconds...
Why?

i don't see full specs for that particular DC-DC PS; so, not much way of telling if it does supply enough power to each voltage - or all of the required voltages.

Be careful - that power supply isn't the same as the one for the Performa 630. The 630 doesn't have 3.3 volts, so putting that power supply into a 630 would likely short 5 volts and 3.3 volts together.

When putting a Performa sixtysomethingorother into a Performa 630 case, I had to cut a 5 volt line and put in my own 3.3 volt regulator. Just so you know...

... actually the actual PSU will be dead soon I guess: the electrolyt condensators are super noisy (high frequency) which is killing my hearing.

i thaught to replace it with something quiet.

actually i put a IDE SD card reader in it too, which works now after a lot of inquiries, but not boot volume. ( i replaced the cd-rom with an old scsi hd which contains the boot partition)

i'm still interested in the specs for that PSU...

thx, raphael

I think those 63x-62xx have a 6-pin header on the PSU (apart from the Molex-MiniFit-Jr Power connector) for some kind of communication with the mobo, in order to power up... So, I'm afraid further research is needed for successfully powering a 630 from a "generic" PSU.

I believe that's why I can't turn on a couple of 6200 mobos on the proper wiring harness -- which is the same on the 630 :( Check here for some ideas (originally from http://homepage.nifty.com/frogeye/connector.html, now defunct). Those ADB Power Supply and Power-Off Command lines seem important to me.

Performa 630 = Quadra 630 = RoadApple PPC in Q630 form factor = No 3.3v on board

PSU's to avoid: Any PCI equipped Q630 form factor (6360 is the only one I know of)

;)
