Quirky firewire hard drive

I have this external firewire enclosure. Sometimes I have a hard time getting the drive to mount. I use it in Mac OS 9.2.2 on my Quicksilver, and on Mac OS 9.1 on my Power Macintosh 7200 with a Sonnet Tempo Trio.

It had been mounting fine for a while. What I do that usually works for me, is I connect the drive to the computer, turn on the drive, and then turn on the computer. This usually causes it to mount automatically on my Quicksilver 9.2.2 desktop.

However, when I want to connect it to my 7200 running 9.1, I often run into problems, and then it's a royal PITA to get it to be recognized on either computer.

I use it for transferring large files between the two computers, so it's not feasible to only leave it on the Quicksilver. Most recently, I downloaded a large file from the Garden using my Quicksilver, since it's much faster. I use the Quicksilver for checking the md5 sum, for extracting large files, and for scanning large files for viruses before transferring the files to my 7200.

But usually when I try to connect it to my 7200, the computer won't mount it.

Now I hooked it back up to my Quicksilver to try to get it to work again. Apple System Profiler detects a volume on FireWire. So like on the far left, it has labels for the interfaces right? For FireWire, it says FireWire 2.8.5 __________ fw609e,10483____________sbp609e,104d8 under Devices and Volumes.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere long ago (years), that said there was a flag on the hard drive that determined whether or not the system should automatically mount it. But if it doesn't automatically mount it, is there a manual way to do it?

I have been trying for hours to try to get this to work again.

Does anyone have any ideas?
